loose mirror

The right hand mirror on my bike is prone to moving out of adjustment at speed,it needs to be tightend up.

I assume if you pull the sleeve closest to the mirror down there will be a lock nut to tighten it up.I can't seem to pull the sleeve down it turns but thats all

Tried using rubber gloves but no success.

Any ideas

The sleeve goes up and you need 2 14mm to tighten.

Hi Bob;

The rubber sleeve slides up, not down, to expose the locknut on the mirror stem. Page 47 of the 2011 manual. Not sure what year you ride.

On some bikes, one side uses a reverse thread, I'm not sure if the 'R does.

From my manual:

Slide up protective cap over threaded fastener on mirror arm.
Loosen nut 1.
Turn mirror arm into desired position.
Tighten the nut to the specified tightening torque, while holding the mirror arm to ensure that it does not move out of position.
Locknut (mirror) on adapter 16 lb/ft (22 Nm)
Slide protective cap over threaded fastener.

Yes they do have a lefthand or reverse thread!

Sorry I did not make myself clear...it is loose at the end of the mirror arm right next to the mirror itself where the ball goes into the mirror..don't know if you can tighten that,
I can pull the rubber sleeve up near the handlebar to reveal the 2 locknuts,but I can't see how they will solve the problem,the mirror arm is rock solid.

I do not know if there is an adjustment mechanism that you can get access to or not; but long ago I had a mirror with the same problem. I was able to move the mirror as far as it would go in one direction and then used a punch to make a few dimples on the mating surface of the adjustment area. Mine had a ball and socket arrangement and I dimpled the ball. The resulting additional friction held the mirror steady from then on. I haven't walked over to the shop to look at my R mirrors to see if they have a similar arrangement, but it just might work.
