Re: Attaching photos
I don't think Doug has picture attachments enabled as this can use up a lot of bandwidth.atown154 wrote:Oh yeah how do you attach pics to your post on this site ?
Instead of attaching to your post, you can link to a photo which is hosted on the internet somewhere by surrounding the url for the image with the

Re: Staintune - Thinking about getting full system
I installed a Staintune full system on my R150R and Apapovic (slip on) on my R12R. Staintune is an Aussie company that exports to the US. Sooo and being honest I found the system annoying. The biggie for me was the popping when I backed off the throttle. System sounds okish with the baffle in but suckie with the baffle out. To try and improve the two issues I tried different size and shape mufflers round and oval etc but no luck. The other small thing is the high mirror polished stainless finish is a bit too much bling is about a flash a a rate with a gold tooth. However I think you can now get in a brushed finish. Anyway just giving you my take on Staintune system.

Re: Staintune - Thinking about getting full system
I have a Staintune end-can on my 1150R & a full system on my 1200RT. Beautifully finished, & well made. I leave the removeable baffle in, & I find the exhaust note pleasing but not anti-social. Have not noticed an excess of popping or banging; just occasionally on the overun it'll make a pop or two. I like their products.

Re: Staintune - Thinking about getting full system
Glad to hear you are happy with your Staintune. My experience wasn't as happy but I'm over it and have no axe to grind. I have used Remus and Apapovic with no issues. To be far to Staintune mine was one of the first R1150R that they did and could the issue. I actually dealt direct with the factory in Bowral NSW. To be honest the factory weren't set up to deal direct with the public and I suspect it could be part of the problem. However when I had mine done there were very few 1150R out there. I was just wondering if you system can from Australia or was made locally in the UK. Just a thought.

System made in Oz. I prefer the note to the Remus revolution I've got on my GSA. It's deeper & more mellow, IMO.mikes wrote:Glad to hear you are happy with your Staintune. Re: Staintune - Thinking about getting full system
I agree the Remus does have a better note. I really put it down to Remus and Co have far more access to BMW and bikes in general. They have far better new product development and R&D. I suspect most of the OZ development and testing is mostly done on paper with minimal or limited on bike testing.

I may have worded it badly; I much prefer the Staintune note. I find the Remus a bit too loud, so it'll have to go.mikes wrote:I agree the Remus does have a better note. Okay then we do not agree. No problem if you go with Staintune make certain they give you the fatter muffler because the smaller ones look like pee shooters.

Re: Staintune - Thinking about getting full system
I have a Remus Y-Pipe and a Neptune muffler with the baffle out (New Zealand). My mate has a 1200GS with a Staintune and having heard them together I much prefer the Neptune. My mechanic heard it and was blown away. On the roll off it has a deep throaty growl and yes it pops sometimes, but I quite like it.
I have heard the same about the Remus pipes as most of you guys i.e they have a deeper more pleasing note than the Staintunes.
The big thing for me was the reduction in weight and better cooling that comes from removing the catalytic converter. Despite what every company says I think we are probably kidding ourselves if we think we are getting any extra power. Nicer note and lower weight is about the limit of it.
It wasn't cheap though and if I knew then what I know now.....
I may have just pulled the muffler off and put on a short, turned out stainless muffler tip. The note is good (try it). The cost is bugger all, and it makes it poo loads easier to change your back tyre.
Give it a go before you expend a zillion dollars on a new set up.

Re: Staintune - Thinking about getting full system
In my post the big plus (i don't think i mentioned any) was the weight reduction of the full Staintune vs OME system. However it doesn't come cheap by any stretch. However after a couple of after systems on my RRs I think I'm going to leave R12R classic stock system in place. I do like the look of the standard system. Also for my style of riding there is very little gain to be had for $$$ but that's not saying i will not change my mind down the track.

Thank you for the info. I think I will go with the remus system .
Re: Staintune - Thinking about getting full system
Mikes, you puzzled me there. Are there different mufflers for a given bike, big & small ?mikes wrote:Okay then we do not agree. No problem if you go with Staintune make certain they give you the fatter muffler because the smaller ones look like pee shooters.

Re: Staintune - Thinking about getting full system
Martyn - what I meant to was they have different diameter mufflers. At the time the factory had off the shelf two different diameter round mufflers (same length) and an oval muffler. They also had a low mount and high mount muffler system. They would also make up a special if you wanted. However from a dealer the was one system offered. Because I went to the factory they guys there would mix and match whatever would fit.
