In Manhattan not only do we have potholes so big a family of four could live comfortably in them, but many of our manhole covers are not flush with the road--by a long shot. There's a pair of such manhole covers that are within two feet of each other around 28th and Lex that are about 2 -3 inches below the road surface (will try to post a photo). Every time I ride over them my kidneys feel like they are going to fly out of my body and worse the bike feels unstable but thankfully responds "decently" and I don't lose control but it just feels like I will.
I have never had aftermarket shocks so was wondering how a new pair would feel/act over such bumps and irregularities of city riding or are their real advantage providing more control and "feel" in the twisties.
Thanks.
How would new shocks make this feel?

New shocks might improve things.
Since you seem to know where these holes are, it might help if you rode around rather than through them. Just sayin'.

Sounds like a good place to do a little swerve practice

LOL..well when you have the traffic we have in Manhattan the swerving thing isn't always easy.
Re: How would new shocks make this feel?
Yeah, by avoiding one pothole in NYC you are risking to hit another which could be bigger, and then there is cabbies

Only because you mention kidneys do I say this but...are you getting up in a squat when you know you are gonna hit these things to absorb them with the legs? Helps a lot down here in DC...
