have rode just about most things on the market for the last 20 years .enjoyed moto x and trials for many years , now only ride to work daily
my greatest passion is bikes . have just bought a 1200r , hopefully i will like it .

i have not rode one yet,no test ride either,
should be ok i think.
have had a few gs 1150 and 1200.
currently have a gs 12 and a hp2 sport.
cannot be much differant from those . hope.

hi all
well had the bike 4 days now ,used every day so far done over 300 miles already and here are my thoughts on the bike that i never rode before buying one .
1 very pleased with it , steering seems a lot differant from the gs .the bike feels light compared to the gs .
seems to have a little more power and a better top end rev range and shows higher speed and less rev ,500 rpm less at 80 mph . slightly better on fuel ,2 days of use in rain (i knew it would not stay nice long ) .THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES WORK ,tried them out on purpose at 50mph to 60 mph, don't think i would attempt on a non abs bike in wet at that speed ,surprising how quick you can stop in the wet . asc works too ,wet train crossing up a slight slope . cannot believe how quick it reacts .
i have used the bike quite hard on a and b roads and really pleased with the way it handles , i did set it on the sport mode , don't think i will try on the comfort mode . compared to my other machines that i use daily as work transport it is a fantastic bike without all the weight on your wrists and i can see things behind in the mirrors (DISAPPEARING). ha . i feel that this bike can be rode equally as hard as a sports bike .
only bad point for me is attaching stuff to the back , lunch and waterproofs work stock etc , don't really want to add a rack if i can help it , back to the dry bag rucksack .
the sport screen is ok at speed ,must be quite effective by the wet patches on the leathers today , the tank keeps a lot of rain off . outside of knees wet .
steering damper is good to , little heavy in town and maneuvering ,at speed (not going to incriminate oneself )its fine .
i shall look forward to doing a 400 mile day on it in the near future .think i have made a good choise on this bike purchase .
for the winter i will put some touring tyres on because they warm up quick and last well ,the bike will then get smothered in oil and rustproof goo so it does not deteriorate much.

Hi Piston , great choice in getting the R . I have had GS's too but as I am no giant I can use the features of the R better . Great pair as i have a HP2s as well, but I favour the R especially as I now have hyperpros on it. Enjoy the ride .Gibbo

i posted a pic 2 days back page 20 ,the bmw dealers had it done in lava orange,i done another thread 2 days back on protective bits i added .there is another pic of the bike with the touratech head guards fitted ,i used these as i had them spare , would like some of the smooth ones ,these look quite good on though ,it will save me a few £ pounds ,plus side they are strong ,i know this from falling off my gs on the drive ,embarrassing or what , every one in the neighborhood was out as well good job i had my full face helmet on , minimal damage to the bike , few scuffs

i have just done the oil and filter , castrol 20w 50 . just the run of the mill mineral oil. next mod is to change the exhaust to something a bit lighter and sportier.

the sport is a great bike , would love to add the arkros to it however the cost of those is almost another bike . i have had mine for 2plus years now. only bad thing about it is the darn mirrors , did see on uk e-bay they now do a mirror extension .

yes i do live in the uk ,cornwall , in the south .

again today done another 50 miles on the r1200 just going to work and back ,sadly it was raining on the way ,whaaaaaaaaaaaa, cannot keep anything nice for a minute , now covered in mud and filth ,dry coming home and could give it some grief , roads nice and quiet ,cannot praise the bike enough , handles so good round the b roads , yet to try the lights out at night , ??
hope they are better than the gs candles .
