I'm in the UK and travel in Europe a lot. I started out with a Streetpilot 2720 which was excellent.
I now have a Zumo 660 which I struggle with sometimes.

I spend many happy hours playing with mapsource planning my tours before downloading them to the Zumo.
I then find that the Zumo recalculates my routes entirely which has really spoiled my tours on some occaisions. The only way I can find to prevent this is to let the Mapsource software calculate a route I'm happy with and then pepper it with additional waypoints to ensure my desired route gets followed. This seems to work.

According to the users forum, the 660 in the US has a firmware upgrade to stop it from recalculating downloaded routes but this is as yet not available over here.

On the plus side, I wrote to Garmin suggesting that they change the rules for their text to speech software so that instead of using the pronunciation rules for the selected language, they should use the rules for the language according to the location. It appears they listened to that so now when I go to Europe the device does a fairly good job job, say, German pronunciation even though I have English selected. Verstehen sie?

The 660 Lane assist and graphic of motorway junction signs is very good when you have to use them.

Oddly enough, I have my 2720 for sale - I'll replicate the advert in the Buy / sell / trade section.

I use a Garmin GPSMap478. I originally bought it for my boat a few years ago, its waterproof, has all my inshore and offshore charts as well as my City Streets. I figured why buy another for the bike, so I ordered the mounting systemn from Gadgetguy.net to mount it. Works great, I can move it from car, to boat, to bike now. Very versitile.
