So I have been looking around at some used R12Rs. Very few blues available. Plenty of blacks though. Black is OK but the biarritz blue is great color.
Would it devalue the bike to paint the tank a stock color? Any ideas on the price? Should I let a BMW dealer do it or look for a paint shop that specializes in such a thing.
Thanks in advance!

I don't think I have ever known a bike shop that does paint in house. They usually farm it out to a specialist themselves.
Re: approximate price to change tank color
Are you thinking of also painting the other painted panels (underseat side trim R and L and front fender F and R) too?

Actually yes those too. Or possibly just buying the blue plastic parts. They are plastic--how much could they be right?

Famous last words, I'm afraid. Check realoem.com to see the list price. Chicago BMW should be a little bit cheaper.LeonardoNYC wrote:They are plastic--how much could they be right?

That's a good question. Might try http://www.beemerboneyard.com to get a handle on the price. If you have to get all the pieces painted...???? The R1200ST came in blue a few years ago.. corvettes and shelby came in blue.LeonardoNYC wrote:Actually yes those too. Or possibly just buying the blue plastic parts. Re: approximate price to change tank color
I would go and visit a professional body shop/paint shop...They can match any color perfectly...you want the tank and all other parts painted at same time with the same paint...the plastic bits will need a different catalist. If you have the capability to remove and drain the tank and the rest of the painted parts, and leave them with the shop, that would be the less expensive route to take.
BMW relacement body parts can be and are very pricey...I plan on giving my R a new facelift this coming winter,a nice Red Apple Metalic
