New to site and first bike

Just wanted to drop a quick hello. This is the first site I came to when I bought my bike (2002 r1150r) and have already learned so much. Thank you to all contributors.
Had my bike for 2 weeks now and couldn't sit still. I started wanting to mod little things but kept unbolting and unscrewing until there was nothing on the bike.
The pipe was fashioned from pipe segments and exhaust tip from Advance Auto Parts. I wrapped all pipes.

Apart from losing a few lbs and changing it's looks, what difference would taking the original silencer off make, and does it sound a lot louder?

Removing the weight makes a difference in handling, removes some heat, allows for a full side left case. The sound is not much louder, and the stock can is not needed with the cat in place. use the search function, this has been covered numerous times.

I took her apart and, sanded all the the parts down. The stock gloss black was sprayed with a matte clearcoat and the silver parts were primed, painted and clearcoated. I did all the work. Not sure how well it'll hold up but it was easy enough to strip her down to try another clearcoat.
Removing the silencer surprised me a bit. She's got a growl now and when I'm in town she's pretty loud. I don't know if it effects only me, but the frequency of the exhaust while riding creates a ringing in my ears that's very annoying. Not sure if changing the length and diameter of the pipe can change that. Cheap enough to try though otherwise might throw the old silencer or a remus on. Can't imaging long rides with that ringing in my ear and I'm sure it's not good for my long term hearing.

That annoying "ringing" with the can off is what made me put mine back on and go with a lowering option. It was at highway speeds where it most bothered me. I really like the flat black look. Can you send me the specific kinds of paint you used, etc. I think I'd like to do something like that on my F650GS plastic parts.

I'll get the info for you. I didn't have the patience or the $ right now to powder coat. I sanded, primed and painted. I recommend powder coating over painting. I'm going to scuff the finish on the rims for sure but I'm willing to live with it until I can do it proper. This is an experiment for me...I do that a lot. It really was pretty easy pulling stuff off so at some point in the summer I might redo some stuff. We'll see how it holds up.
