hi,
Long time no post.
I have an '02 R with abs. Rode to work today no problem. When I started her up to ride home, the brake light on the dash was blinking red and I had no power to the abs. A bit scary riding home like that with no brake power. yeah, I know I probably shouldn't have ridden it.
Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? Hopefully a possible quick and cheap fix like a fuse? Money is super tight and I can't afford to take it to the dealership right now.
Any ideas?
Matt

Hi Matt, sorry to hear of your problem, I had the same thing and posted about it, , and there is an especially good article by Sweatmark it is well worth a read. If it is the dreaded ABS unit failure there are less expensive ways out of it.
Good luck, and I hope it's something simple.

I had a very similar problem. I was having lots of bad thoughts about replacing or removing the ABS. It was solved by topping off the fluid in the ABS (how's that for cheap fix?). My pads had worn down and the fluid went down correspondingly.

Low battery can also cause this problem. Test that out too. Hoping you find a cheap, quick fix.

relatively new odyssey (2 months). that shouldn't be the problem.
Re: ABS Failure - help please
New battery does not exclude voltage from being iABS problem. Put bike on charger appropriate for the AGM battery, charge fully, then start bike and assess iABS status.
As mentioned, fluid level would be next focus, along with brake switches.

Hello there, GET RID OF THE ABS/SERVO
I had the exciting moment of trying to stop with no brakes. I could never trust the abs again so i rang a local bike garage. When i asked him about the failing abs he immediately told me what model bmw i had. I asked him if it is a common fault and he said his " scrap bin is full of bmw abs systems."
Did`nt cost that much to remove the parts i now have proper working brakes that can be serviced easily.
If your anywhere near Lincolnshire i can let you have the garage`s address .
