First Long Trip

Just returned from a 1200 mile toot to Death Valley.

Mostly it was lovely. The bike is much less sensitive to cross winds and turbulence than any other I've ridden. Plenty of power, Smooth airflow (thanks Don C!), enough leg room (thanks Suburban Machinery!), etc. etc. Had a really good time. Saddlebags and the Multivario provided lots of extra space.

The seat's less bad at high speed than it is in town, perhaps 'cause I'm being pushed back a bit, counteracting its forward slope. I'm still going to get a Rich's.

I did, however, learn than the ZFE is not bright enough to save the rider if he leaves the ignition on (motor off) during a protracted lunch stop. With both H11s burning (it has a Kisan PathBlazer), the battery went completely flat. A jump and an hour's ride and things were OK again. Don't ask me how I know this.

I had a very similar experience once. It was the low beam and the H3 driving lights that did it!

How dare you Dave...I slid out three times on the way to work today in the 4 wheeler on black ice

Still looking like April for a RR GO here in the hills.

I appreciate the radio version ride report - insert sweltering road pics from Death Valley please. (I need to be reminded what a road without salt, sand and ice looks like)

Sorry guys. I didn't carry a camera. DV was dry and clean, mid-80s during the day. I made sure the pool at Furnace Creek was used. The temp went down to 58 or so in the early morning over Townes Pass (4950') going in.
