Rear Hub - special tools?

Will do a search later - but could anyone tell me if there are any special tools or knowledge needed in stripping the rear hub on our bikes?

The non-ABS Rockster has an odd system for driving the speedo. The magnetic pick up is mounted into the rear hub case, and is driven by a steel ring, pressed onto the (I assume aluminium alloy) hub.

Problem though is that if this ring is for any reason removed, it needs to be pressed back on properly, which didn't happen when the rear hub bearings were replaced. (the person doing that job wasn't aware of the steel ring, and had no experience of it). The ring "can" be pushed back onto the hub through the speedo drive hole (I've done this in the past). Problem is when the hub is particularly cold, the ring won't stay on using this simpler method.

So - I, or someone, needs to strip the hub again to press this steel ring on properly, so - what's needed?

I'd be happy to send you one of my rear wheel "timing rings" with positions for 6 sensor targets, but your final drive is machined for the vertical-axis speedometer sensor, and not the horizontal-axis ABS sensor that extends through the final drive.

I'm having some front wheel timing rings machined, as the mount geometry differs slightly from rear wheel. If all else fails with your quest to securely attach OE target crown ring within final drive, then perhaps you might use sensor at front wheel + timing ring to satisfy speedometer signal requirements.

Cheers mate - yeah I may see if I can move the speedo sensor, might be easier than splitting the hub again.

The sensor ring within the hub is perfectly safe if it's loose - it just rotates randomly and sporadically but doesn't seem to affect anything.
