Heat wrap

Has anyone applied heat wrap to the roadster exhaust ?, id like to know if it is detrimental to the cooling of the engine. im tired of looking at the bluepitted pipes. Thought it may be a good look for it.

I like the look of the blued pipes but to each his own. And I'm not a big fan of the tape. It eventually frays and comes off and will also hold water. The best solution is a ceramic coating. There are a number of them around. Pricey but permanent. I've read some of the folks on this site comment on their ceramic coated pipes. "Motorcycle exhaust ceramic coating" on Google got a ton of hits.

Exhaust wrap will not cause engine damage, it will increase exhaust pipe temperatures. It can in some cases lower engine temperature due to increase exhaust flow. The exhaust gas density increases as it exits the combustion chamber and continues down the exhaust pipe, causing it to slow down. By wrapping the exhaust you increase exhaust pipe temperature thus decrease or maintain density, and if the system isn't too restrictive or long, you can increase velocity over non-wrapped pipes.

If you ride in the rain, the exhaust wrap will eventually come apart when soaked repeatedly. They do make coated high temperature wrap for industrial applications that may hold up better then the off the shelf car wrap. Just remember to use SS clamps to hold it in place.

Exhaust wrap will get dirty and dingy rather quickly. Unless you're trying to create a rat bike, it just wouldn't look right IMHO.

As another person stated, ceramic coating is the way to go -- there are a number of colors available nowadays. Black would look pretty sharp. I've had it done on exhaust manifolds in a couple of my cars, and the stuff really holds up!
