Exhaust pipe gets very hot quick.

Hi,

I had my bike sit for a year due to operation appreantly charge was disconnected and battery went dead so I replace battery and when
I started the bike with new battery with choke on I notices exhaust pipe gets red glowing hot and when sitting idle without choke it is hot as can burn card board? Is this normal? Help Thanks.

Hello doztan,

do you mean the mufflers or the final exhaust? Did you let the bike run while standing for a while or did you drive? Is the final exhaust free or is it possible that due to dirt or some creepers the exhaust is blocked?

It was running on the stand and pipes in the front next to brake pad I do not see any blocked but I will double check also I will see if the hot exists while I am riding but it was scary seeing red glow.

Correction pipes that comes out of the boxer engine

The piper leaving the cylinder and down toward the lower collector will glow red if the bike sits and idles for awhile - it's normal. You usually see this in low light conditions and it always freaks you out the first time

They are thin wall stainless - and single wall

As long as you feel exhaust leaving the slip on & the slip on is not discoloured (maybe a little at the bottom, I wouldn't worry about it
