After some long trips I've made a commitment to install a BLM external fuel cell on my 2004 R1150RT, mounting it on a spare rear passenger seat.
I think the Fuel Cell needs a place for the gravity feed to connect into the main gas tank - which is not metal. So, what does it need? I am not sure there's room on the metal plate used by the stock fuel pump/filter. Any tips, tricks or photo's gratefully received !!

Carrying extra fuel has always been a concern of mine when venturing out on a long ride. Last September really put the fear in me. I was traveling at night and passed many closed gas stations and nearly ran out of gas. Luckily, I came upon a 24hr station. It was just too close for comfort.
With that said, I’m also entertaining some sort of auxiliary fuel supply. I never considered a fuel cell like a BLM. Personally, I need that rear seat area to secure dry bags for long trips.
I came across a product that I’m looking to secure to my ride that will allow me to carry an extra 2 gallons of fuel.
It might be worth looking at as an alternative to the BLM. There are pictures on the website that illustrate many motorcycle mounting configurations including BMW.

The Rotopax look good... The 1 gallon with bracket looks interesting. I wonder if it could be adapted to one of the side cases or the rear tail rack?
Even here in Western NY, we have come across areas without gas stations with the yellow lights glaring us in the face. 1 gallon would make the difference in most cases around here. But if I can mount one, I can mount two.

Those fuel packs just became legal for use in California. I'm going to order 2 one gallon packs and 2 locks.
I have been thinking about how I'm going to mount them. There seems to be many ways it can be done, but I'm leaning toward mounting them between my hard cases and the bike. Like a sandwich. I have a new Shad case system, and there is about 5 inchs or so between the bike and the cases. I just need to fabricate a bracket of sort to secure the locks. I'll take some pictures when I'm done....then figure out how to post them on here.
