I know this is a little off topic and may have been discussed before but I can't find any reference to it in my search of the forums.
I want to upgrade my helmet to helmet communication gear from the original Blue Ant set and throw in a GPS.
What I want is the new Scala G4 and the Garmin Zumo 660. Both are great looking units but I can't get a straight answer about the particular connection configuration that I want.
Can anyone tell me from first hand experience if I can do the following -
Have two Scala G4's talking to each other (bluetooth headset - bike to bike full duplex intercome mode) and have the Zumo cut in with directions when it needs to. My wife and I ride separate bikes and generally have our communication gear on all the time. Till now I have not had a GPS on the bike but if I do I want to have it interrupt our conversation when it is providing directions.
I'm not expecting it to broadcast to both of us, just the bike that is carrying the GPS.
Is this possible?

My husband and I have the Scala G4's. I have a Zumo 450 (wired, no Bluetooth) and husband has the BMW Navigator III (Bluetooth). Both GPS units will cut into our connections for giving directions. But once it does break into your conversation it will take up to 30 seconds to re-establish communication link. I know it doesn't sound like much...but is longer then you think sometimes.

Looks as if it's possible, but there could be a stereo/mono issue — probably not a dealbreaker if you're not listening to music. Lots of user feedback on your question at http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle- ... review.htm. Note the Navi IV and zumo 660 are the same head unit.

Yup, it works exactly like you stated. Once you experience it (the GPS interrupting your conversation) a couple of times, you'll want to throw it over your shoulder at a passing truck. As the previous poster stated, it takes a while to reconnect to intercom, and it gets very frustrating very fast. I just mute mine, and keep an eye on the display unless I'm alone.
I have to quaify that I have the Scala Rider Q2 multiset, but I'm assuming your G4 will work identically.
Good system, we love ours.

Re: OT - Zumo 660 and Scale G4
Thank you to everyone for the input.
Can I ask two more questions of those that have the G4 units?
1. How long do these run in intercom mode on a single charge? Ny existing Blue Ant unit will give me 4-5 hours of constant intercom connection and that is just a little too short for a long days riding.
2. does the unit come with a charger that has a automotive connection (cigarette lighter type) on the end so that with an adapter it can be plugged in to the power socket on the BMW?
Thanks again for the feedback.

I have the G4 and Zumo 660 and it works as has been described. The charger goes to a 110V outlet, not sure how long it will run in intercom mode but I think you could go most of the day like that. I'll find out next week as the wife and I travel from Seattle down the Oregon coast and then over to the rally in Bend.

We consistently ride 6 to 10+ hours on a charge without a problem. Just be sure to turn them off when you stop for long breaks and such. As stated, the charger is 110V. I don't know if they offer another charger or not.

I think the G4 is rated at 10 hours talk time and 7 days standby on a single charge. That's pretty impressive.
My Q2 will go at least 8 hours of pretty constant chatter, sometimes TOO constant...
