Luggage-Givi-top case

Post by davidh8462 »

I am considering adding a a top case to my 2004 1150R. I have the standard mounting brackets for the side luggage and tail bracket. I have looked at the Givi monokey models but unclear as to which model fits the R1150 and what mounting hardware works with this top case. I would appreciate any advice/comments/thoughts or experience as to which top case works well with this bike. I not locked into Givi top cases so any other top cases that work well with the R1150 would be worth knowing about.

I have a Givi Monokey V46 on my 02 R1150R and love it. It is a good sized box. There are two different Givi mounting systems. I put the SR683? on my bike. With that mounting kit the bag hangs over the seat a couple of inches. This is fine for me since I only have my Granddaughter on the back. If you haul a large clothing bag, it may push you too far forward. There is another mounting kit, I forgot the number, where the box is behind the seat. Good luck, go Givi Monokey.

I have a Hepco & Becker carrier and Journey 50 top-case. The carrier fits in place of the BMW rear rack on the BMW
panier rails. Very good well made case and carrier rack is good on it's own. Top case hold 2 helmets with ease

I just purchased a 2004 r1150r with ABS. It had a Givi Monokey V46 installed when I bought it. I haven't had a lot of time with the case, but what little time I have, I really like it. Store my helmet and gloves in it and use it to haul heavy items when I'm concerned with side loading the bike in the system cases. It appears to have a Givi mount installed to fit it to the bike. If you'll send me your email address I'll be happy to forward pics from my iphone. It's got a nice quick release just like the system cases, but it looks odd without it due to the Givi mount. Hope this is helpful!

What are you planning to use the top case for? I've got the SR683 mounting kit too, with an E36 case. Not too bulky, but large enough to be useful. PS, your pillion ends up having less room though.

Any top box will work if you have the R1150R rack installed. I went the direction of Riceburner and replaced the silver oem rack with a plastic cutting board cut down, to create a flat surface to anchor the givi mounting plate to. It works great, looks good and meets my needs. Do a quick search on this site for more information.

Don't all laugh! I have the BMW soft top bag and I think it's an incredibly practical
solution. It doubles as a shoulder bag and is very well made. Good thinking by someone.

After I installed GIVI E-52 top case, My pillion had no room to sit.
So, I moved the case 5.5 inches back, by adding additional plate.
Works fine for me.
Good Luck.

I have a Givi E46 with a BMW plate that mounts with a key lock to the rear rack. I also have a backrest that mounts onto the case.I am interested in selling it. If you're interested , let me know and I'll send you photos. - Lou Davis
