I have been looking for tank pads for my Siena Red '02 R-bike. The paint is not bad, now, but I can see how belt buckles, etc. might tend to ding it up. I've looked a the Ztechnik and a couple of others, but I am not sure if I like the carbon fiber-look. I've also found the CSS tank pads, which look more conventional. I just want something that will protect the tank and look like it belongs there. Any advice on what to get and where to get some nice tank protectors/pads? Thanks.

I think CSS has been the choice here for some reason. I tend to think these and tank pads in general alter the look of the tank. If you like the look, great. If you don't, are you willing to cover the paint in order to protect it? Seems like putting plastic seat covers on the sofa. Doesn't work for me.
What about the pre-cut 3M kits? They don't glue to the tank (adhere by static electricity), are transparent, and don't alter the look of the bike. I haven't had any experience with them, but for around $40 they are on my final lists of things to do.

I did more looking and research on the forum and decided to get the Css tank pads. I am getting them Wunderlich. I will report how it all works out. Thanks.

I think mine is the ZTechnik Carbon Fiber Tank Protector. I like it and think it looks great.

I appreciate the input. It would seem that most everyone has their own style on something like tank pads/protectors, or the other more aesthetic type accessories. That's why after researching this forum and a number of websites, I decided to post and see what other info I could get on them before buying any. I 've found this forum a great place to get information on all kinds of stuff for my R-bike. I hope in the future, when I have more experience with the bike, I will be able to provide more constructive input. Right now, I'm just getting to know the bike and what's available.
Having said that, I personally don't like the carbon fiber look on my R1150R. It seems to me out of place and too high tech. I see the R1150R as a good looking sporty sedan that happened to be a motorycycle. Now if I were looking more for the cafe look, or if I had a S1000RR, the carbon fiber would look great!! and appropriate. Or if I were relying on a product more for its strength, or light-weight (like a fender, or exhaust system), carbon fiber would be a definite factor in the choice. But for me, tank pads just don't meet that kind of crtieria. I just want something that will function to protect the paint and look like it belongs on the bike. And, I did always like the look of the knee pads on the British bikes back in the 1960's and 70's, or even the Hondas and others, ; I guess I am kind of partial the look that resembles the original naked bikes. To each his own.
