Get on the left side of the bike. Lay flat on your back with your head by the front tire. Centered under the front portion of the engine block is the drain plug. Offset just left front of that is the recessed oil filter well.

I see it now....I guess I wasn't thinking German enough. I appreciate your help...the dealer was killing me on maintenance...

Spring is in the air in Washington, and I am looking forward to some mountain rides...any Rocksters in Western WA want to ride the North Cascades highway when they open it this year?

you're not alone on this deal; on my first oil change, with filter, oil tools and a half day to do it all ready to go , the wife looking at my big mechanical skills I began to look for this oil filter and could not find it, after about 10 minutes of looking stupid I get up to get a cup of coffee, my wife calls and asks, IS THIS the oil filter? All she said after that was, you got look every where ! WTF!

Are you sure you want to 'properly dispose' of 4+ quarts of refined petro chemicals? This is a huge responsibility that the average person may find overwhelming. You could always post over at the Al Gore support center.

As far as I know, in the USA any retail store that sells oil must also take used oil as well. Just take the old oil to autozone and they'll point you to their used oil tank. Alternatively, some town/city dumps take oil.
