Bad Ignition coils

Post by vas2grny »

Hey folks,

I have a 2004 Rockster. Just changed both coils the other day.
The bike started running rough and backfiring.
Also up in the higher rev range it would just bog down.
I'm at 27k miles and a friend with less miles on an 04 GS had the same problem a month ago.
It's an easy swap so if anyone is experiencing loss of power, bad gas mileage and backfires check the coils...

The bike flies again.

It was a gradual decline from what I could tell until they finally arced completely.
I'm surprised the dealer didn't notice since I had brought it with the backfiring issue and loss of power.
They did the regular service, valves and TB sync. Still had the backfiring and slowly got worse.

now time to ride my little piggy again,
:D

Good catch as it is a common ocurrence due to heat deterioration. Regarding the dealer....there are a few good ones and there are a lot not worth a dime. Suggest you take over basic maintenance, as it is easy and will provide you with a better riding experience....regarding your dealer I'll let you decide.

For parts and spares you might consider beemerboneyard if you already don't know about it or Chicago BMW as they discount 20%.
