quickshifter ???

Post by mattbr »

well, since there are rumors of a 13gs and that a 12r won't be long behind it, i've got this hunch the urge to farkle to stay away from the new shiny is going to be powerful pretty soon...

of the funstuff i was thinking about, has anyone experimented with the aftermarket quickshifters ? do they work ? are they any good ? worthwhile ? is there anything that is functionally as good as what say a k13/hp2 could get ?

I would think twice about making a quick-shifter work. They make all kinds of sense on a race bike where 100ths of seconds make a difference, but then again those guys rebuild clutches and trannys a LOT more than I would ever want to.

My opinion (and yes, it is humble) is that one of the reasons the R12R's are so great is their rugged reliability. You can find performance upgrades elsewhere without sacrificing that.

Hi mattbr.... I have a R1200R with a Pingle Electric Shift installed on the bike. The design has an electronic box that kills the motor when the shift is activated. Or the rider pushes a button, the motor dies, the bike is shifted, and the motor restarts. You can see a demo video at http://www.pingelonline.com/eshifter.htm . Alamo BMW setup my bike but did not attach the kill part (box) on my R because it is very detailed stuff. Also several reasonable people I spoke with said using a clutch would be the best route. So I have to use the clutch when I shift and I'm good with that.
Recently I posted a topic about the best rpm shift point. One answer suggested that I bounce the motor off the rev-limiter then shift when the slack came into the drivetrain. This would happen in a blink of an eye. My ride ability is far below the experience needed to try this stunt; however it's on my list of things to do.

Mollygrubber.... he comments about the cost of performance on the edge and I thinks he is right. To simply replace a clutch is $700.00 labor plus.

A Pingle Shift Kit for a BMW is $775.00 plus you'll need to install it. Pictures of my bike and the shifter.....

For all this I finally have a reason to post a picture of my bike. 8)
