R1200r pickup date 18th Sept

Post by zei220 »

Just had a call from the dealer saying my R1200r will be ready for collection next Friday. I've booked the ferry and will be running the bike with a trip around northern France. I can hardly wait......

You have no idea how exotic that sounds to someone in central Arkansas. Good luck with the bike and your trip. Please post some pictures.

I think it depends on where you're standing.... Hot Springs sounds like an interesting place to me. :D

However, I was riding in the Swiss Alps two weeks ago, how there is somewhere you need to go......

Or like these?

Or, if that's too many photos, here one of the Passo dello Stelvio (2758 meters) between Italy and Switzerland:

Your looking at 48 hairpin turns on this side of the pass.

Two week tour with Rob Beach, 2000 miles, 10,000 hairpin turns.
Oh yeah! This is where our bikes were born and raised.

And if you really want to see what it's like to drive up the north side of Stelvio, check out these 3 10-minute videos. They're filmed from a roll bar in a Caterham 7. I chose these videos because of the steadiness of the images compared to those filmed on bikes.

This gives you a real feel of the roads, and the traffic. Notice a couple of the less skilled bikers who enter the turns from the extreme left side of the roadway: NOT a healthy practice!

I found it challenging and exhilarating, and very scary when coming around a hairpin to find a tour bus 100% across the roadway, backing up so he could go forward so he could back up about 5 x to make the turn. They own the road!

And don't get me started about the Italian kids on weekends on the Ducati's. My friend said, "They don't obey any of the traffic laws." I replied, "Heck, they don't even obey the laws of physics!"
