Hello everyone,

I've put the deposit on a new R1200r in blue with all the good bits, should be ready for delivery 20th September. I'm putting my K1200r in exchange. Really looking forward to it......

Welcome Dave: you'll soon be advised as to the fastest color, which will (being model-t black or fungus gray) be incorrect.

I know for a certainty, and you will soon, that blue will accellerate with the most rapidinous alacrity.

DO NOT BELIEVE PETER aka Mollygrubber. He is reported to be nice guy and well accomplished, but obviously confused at times. Black is without a doubt the best/fastest/coolest/classic color The blue is dam n sexy though! Congrats on your new naked ride and would you share some thoughts/review of the KR please?

Any reason why you elected to go from the big K to the middle-weight R? I guess I wondering what it is that the K doesn't do for you that the R will.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I see the colour question is still going on. My thoughts on it are: Black is the softest paint, like a lot of the owners ( please notice the smiley). Gray are like belly buttons, everyone's got one (again, notice the smiley). White is nice, the one to have if you can't get a Blue one. However, Blue is the of sign of style, sophistication and the quiet confidence of knowing you have the best colour, the one all other bikes look up to. So hopefully we won't hear any more about which colour is best from now on....... not.

The primary reason for changing is the K is, it's too easy to drive fast. I'm finding myself travelling way too fast as soon as I leave the built up areas, unless you watch the speedo all the time, speed just keeps creeping up. The secondary reason being the cost of servicing, I'm hoping to do all the maintenance on the R, while the K costs £250 for the small service and up to £400 for the main service.

When I was looking to buy a new bike I first looked at the K1200R but then (as mentioned in another subject line on this forum) there was the round (normal) headlight, tubular handlebars, and when I had my hands on the K bike the tupperware panels covering the fuel cell flexed. That was all it took for me. I wanted a metal gas tank! Plus the R1200R had a shorter wheelbase (58.9 for the R and 62.2 for the K) and was more flickable. Me and my MOB do all of our riding in the mountains where a more flickable bike has the advantage.
The BMW luggage for the R bike is more capacious also.
I haven't looked back since.
There is plenty of passing power when those slow cagers won't be courteous and pull over. Some of my buddies who ride airheads just have to endure the slow pokes.
The lack of after market items for our bike is something of a disappointment though.

I had an 1100R for 7yrs. Then switched to a K1200RS. I had the same problem. Always going too fast. Also that bike was just that little bit heavier, little bit bigger etc. In other words the R is a bike I could jump on to run down to the store or ride across country. The K1200 was maybe too serious. The whole time on it I just missed my R. So after a mere 10 months I went and lost my ass trading it in on my 1200R.

...then there is Silver.
It has no need to brag or boast, or fight with the other colours for top slot because it's owners know that Silver is now, and forever will be, the true majesty of colours.
True, it doesn't shout "look at me" ...because it doesn't have to,.. it doesn't get confused about whether it needs stripes or not, or worry about which hugger will look best. And it is humble and cares for other colours. Silver will indeed go with any other colour.
Just ask yourself,.. do you ever see a black, grey , blue or white religious cross? I think not. Silver is the devine colour

Silver - is just a shinney Gray, and you've opened a bigger can of worms now you've mentioned religion....

OK, I 'll come clean, ...don't want to hijack the thread on the colour debate. Truth is, I was looking for a 2 year old R1200R in the UK 3 months ago , and was after a "black" one (there, ..I 've said it!), ..but I couldn't find one with the right spec and price. In the end, the right bike came along , and it was silver, and pretty nice looking it is too. Heavenly in fact

Isn't it interesting the number of ex K1200R owners now R1200R. I too was one however two things made me change to the R1200. Going a bit quick (NZ is hilly and twisty in the best roads and I was continually getting quicker between corners!) and its 'flickability' was heavy work. However saying that, demerit points which have accrued on the R1200R in 18 months have meant the purchase of a radar detector. So - grey does go faster.?
