Well - i put the "old style" belt on with the new style alt. It fits well. The "new pulley belt " was around 15% smaller and had a different part number...
Now the problem - some times my bike cuts out.
I mean - I will drive home from work down the highway @ 75 plus for 40 mins, slow down for the exit. come to a complete stop. I will give the bike some gas and BOOM!. The Beemer is dead. The is unacceptable. I have also completed the 24k maints on it. Maybe I did something wrong?? The fuel filer was hard to change..
The bike will re-start
I may be forced to send it to the dealer. All failed roads lead to the dealer....please help.....Thanks Dutch

Re: 04 rockster cuts out
Do you have a carbon canister, if so, did the hoses get re-connected to their right places after installing the tank?
4 plug engine? bad stick coil(s) or broken electrical stick coil connector.
When you come to a stop and get ready to start, by any chance are you turning right or left? If so, check the nylon ties holding the wire bundles by the steering head as these ties have been known to eventually cut/break the wires. Most of the time the broken wires affct the operation of the bike. Do a search if you haven't heard about this failure.
Good luck...........

Re: 04 rockster cuts out
Thanks for the info boxermania.
I connected the carbon canister correctly. I left the male ends in each side so when I re-istall the tank I would not make that error.
Yes four plug, all new from Beemerboneyard 24k maint kit.
The first time the bike had cutout I was going straight ahead slowing down for a stop sign after a fast run from the highway. The second time I was at my exit turning and then the bike would cut off.
The bike just dies. Not back fire. I only noticed the bike stalled when the gages lite up, then I pull the clutch and hit the start button.
I crashed the back slowly last Sept. It landed on the left side, mabye the kickstand sensor is going bad?
Thanks for the info. I have seached this wedsite and found some more helpfull info you have left for others.
Thanks Dutch

Good idea to check the side stand switch and its wiring. Another possibility would be the kill switch circuit, in case the wire bundle leading up to handlebar has been damaged due to tight zip ties.
But checking the side stand switch first would be my choice. There's a connector under the tank for the switch in case you need to permanently jump the circuit.
