Looking for advice on a ladies jacket
To go with Amy's new bike, we're shopping for a jacket. Jacket will be primarily for warm weather riding, of course some cool morings, evenings, and rain are inevitable.
Quality motorcycle apparel for women is somewhat tough to find. Gawd, there is a lot of junk that seems more for image than actual riding. BMW stuff is good but on the pricey side. She is leaning towards cordura type material.
We're trying not to break the bank, but I am trying to find something of good quality with armour.
This is about all that we have found...Any input on this?....Any other suggestions?...

Re: Looking for advice on a ladies jacket
Thanks for all the feedback...you've really helped out.
Anyway, she did order the above jacket. Got it a couple days ago. Ridden in it a couple times. It seems very nice. Much better than I expected. This jacket also is available in mens sizes. New Enough is selling these at a huge discount right now. I would recommend this jacket, especially at this price.
Matching pants did not fit and she is awaiting the new pair.

Kirk,
I didn't even see this thread until today when you placed this latest post.
The one Jenny uses is also from NewEnough I believe. It's a Tourmaster Trinity in the light blue-feminine-color but similar in style to those you show. She will never ride with me when its cold so we got the mesh one and she really likes it. I think it came in lt. blue and pink at the time, but she preferred the lt. blue.
Sorry for not posting something sooner. Your choice is probably the best anyway. FirstGear is good stuff. But you might want to trade it in for a longer one to cover the low slung pants that she's fond of.

No expert in female riding gear but I do know that Olympia has a line of women's gear which is specifically designed for the female shape, not just resized men's stuff. The owners of Olympia are a married couple and she has made sure that the ladies are not neglected.
Sounds like a ladies Airglide jacket might be something similar to what you are looking for. Check out their web site and good luck. (Olympia Moto Sports)

My girlfiend loves her Airglide, FWIW. I have a Airglide set that I've done most of the last 20k miles in and I like it too. The rain liners are warm, I ride down to 35-40 degrees on short trips.wncbmw wrote:No expert in female riding gear but I do know that Olympia has a line of women's gear which is specifically designed for the female shape, not just resized men's stuff. She also has a Cortech LRX (textile) and LNX (leopard leather, rowr) which are nice jackets as well. All three all share a compatible 8" zipper at the back so if she had a pair of riding pants they would mix and match.
Go Sabres!
Re: Looking for advice on a ladies jacket
When you decide to buy her something warmer, you might want to look at the First Gear leather. http://www.newenough.com/protective_app ... acket.html I recently bought the First Gear Scout IV leather jacket and It will not disappoint. It's a first class jacket. It's ok up to about 80 degrees and then I think a lighter jacket would be better. I may look for a perforated leather for the warmer weeks. I've quit wearing my Kilimanjaro.
A point here, somewhat related.
Why are posts like this relegated to "Off Topic" ? The fact is, it's not off topic, and this message being in this forum is the primary reason I didn't see it for so long.

Re: Looking for advice on a ladies jacket
This thread is a perfect example of the unpopular "off-topic" section. Read my second post...
A spammer brought it back to life a few days ago.
(I think this thread belongs in the Off-Topic because it would apply to everyone...it doesn't matter which model of bike you might ride)
This certainly might be helpful for the next female rider looking for gear. The First Gear stuff (TPG jacket and pants) Amy bought is really nice, I am kinda jealous of her gear. The jacket and pants are not good for very hot weather. Except for those very hot conditions...the gear is great.
We did check out the Olympia Website when we were looking around. I have an old Olympia (discontnued model) jacket that I have had for a number of years. I was not overwhelmed by the quality of the jacket...but for the price I paid...I would say it was a great value.
For whatever reason Amy chose the First Gear stuff. Both brands had my approval.

Ok, let's say your female rider is looking for riding gear for ladies. She says " Hmmm, where would I find ladie's riding gear ?" She surfs around and finds the "Off Topic" forum. So maybe she opens it up and finds a post with Burger King pictures with very suggestive themes. Or a discussion on music, or photography. See what I mean ? I wouldn't look for gear recomendations in here and I'm on the forum all the time. Off topic to me means Not motorcycle related. Maybe there should be a separate forum for gear. I understand what you're saying about someplace not motorcycle type related, so maybe we need a specific forum. We could do gear reviews. Everybody has opinions of the brands and types of gear we use. I bet it would get a lot of traffic.

Indeed, there should be a "GEAR" forum!Airman wrote:When you decide to buy her something warmer, you might want to look at the First Gear leather. http://www.newenough.com/protective_app ... acket.html I recently bought the First Gear Scout IV leather jacket and It will not disappoint. iowabeakster - I guess we all failed reading comprehension!
Completely missed that she already bought a jacket. Oh well.
I agree that Off Topic is sort of dead and maybe another forum or renaming of this one would help. Hey - someone should start a thread on that!

Vann,
I see your point...(that one ought to be moved to the playhouse).
I hope that the issue gets resolved before I get yelled at again!Hey - someone should start a thread on that!
Why would she think that there would be info about women's riding gear in a thread about BK's BJ innuendos?Ok, let's say your female rider is looking for riding gear for ladies. Re: Looking for advice on a ladies jacket
Yeah, well I just meant that she'd encounter all sorts of unrelated material that would lead her to believe there was no gear related threads in here. One of my other interests, ADVRider, has an expanded menu with just that sort of forum listed. They split the bikes off just as is done here, but have various special interests listed as well. Something that has always amused me is their "Jo Momma" forum which is a place where (evidently) you are expected to go if you intend to be abusive and insulting. Because the Jo Momma forum exists, they expect that you will not be abusive and insulting in the other forums. It's a mostly successful concept.iowabeakster wrote:Vann,I hope that the issue gets resolved before I get yelled at again!Hey - someone should start a thread on that!

Re: Looking for advice on a ladies jacket
Any thoughts on Icon jackets for women? There are some good looking jackets made for women, but I haven't seen any in person.
Yes, I know this thread is old ... but I haven't ever ventured in here before. Any traction on a "Gear" section of the forum?
