Mobil 1 deal

Post by rdsmith3 »

I was just at Auto Zone and I got 5 quarts of synthetic 15W-50 and a Mobil 1 #102 filter for $30. Compared to their regular prices that is a pretty good deal. I think this sale is through the end of June.

I did the same thing for all of my vehicles. How is it that everything I have needs an oil change at the same time?

It's a few bucks savings at least. My local W-M sells the 15w-50 for $27. Is that Mobil 1 #102 a good filter ?

Is that for 4 quarts or 5? My Wal-Mart does not usually have 15W-50 Mobil 1. BJ's wholesale club will occasionally carry the 15W-50 and their regular price is $37 for a carton of six quarts IIRC. I don't recall ever seeing Mobil 1 for less than $6/quart for 15W-50 at normal everyday prices.

The deal was basically getting the filter for free. It is a solid, substantial-feeling filter

My last few oil changes I ended up with a similar deal at Advanced Auto Parts. Other times it was Mobil 1 oil and a Fram filter. This time it was full synthetic Castrol (five quarts) and a Purolator oil filter for $24.95. The oil alone was $7.99/quart, so it was cheaper to buy the five quarts and an oil filter that I'll never use. I usually give the oil filter to my father-in-law for one of his older hot-rods.

Right, W/M sells the Mobil 1 15w/50 in 5 qt (4.73L) jugs for about $27 When I bought last spring I was horrified at the price increase. A year ago it had been $23 for that same jug. You are correct that Wal-Mart does not always have the stuff, but I live in what you might say was a Wal-Mart rich environment. I have a small old Wal-Mart about 1 mile from the house. A "Super" Wal-Mart 3 miles away. The small store did not have the Mobil 1. As for pricing, when I was back in KS last Oct, I needed a qt of 10w40 Mobil 1 for the van. The father-in-law had a whole rack in his garage of 1 qt bottles. Said he bought them at the Commerce City, CO flea market for, oh... $2 a qt. Too bad shipping is so high or I'd ship myself 20 dozen quarts back here to WA. Some people know how to find deals, eh ?
