Wunderlich Comfort Touring bars or Barbacks?
As you may have seen in my other post, I am having some ergonoic issues with my 2002 R1150R. I am working on the seat height issues and may have that under control.
Now I need to work on reach. I have seen some have used barbacks and some have used the Winderlich Comfort Touring bars..
I have tendonitus in both wrists and need to eleviate some stress n them. Seems like My elbows are locked when riding with the stock bars and my thumbs and index fingers ache..
I may do the throttle puppies too, but, wondering if should do bar backs first , (and which ones), or if I should do the Comfort bars... or both!
I'd really like to see a pic of the Comfort bars on a R1150R too? The pix on Wundlich's website make the bars look like they are pointed downward at the grips...
Someone also posted that the bike feels lighter after installing the Comfort bars..Whudayamean?

I use both.
Wunderlich Touring bar can be adjusted very easy.
After installing Touring Bar, do not tighten it right away.
Just sit on the bike and rotate the bar until you will find the best position for your hands.
My bar backs are about an 1.5 inches UP and 1.5 inches BACK.
Together with the touring bar and bar backs, the combination makes the riding position very comfy, at least for me.
Good Luck.

The less expensive bar back is the Moto Techniques. Also experiment with angle for levers. I have had CT surgery on R & L and so I always wear a glove that softens vibration. Throttlemiesters too!I have found that on long cruises I can experiment with the grip I use to give my hands a break.

There is a set of bar backs from Moto-techniques in the buy sell and trade section at a great price!

Hey TicTac50,
Did you have to buy new lines or did you have enough stretch? I have Gen-mar risers on my 2004 which are 1" rise and back 1 3/8". The cables/brake line/ wires seem tight. What risers did you use?
I was considering the touring bars myself.
Thanks,
Dan...

I do not see how you installed the Wunderlich Touring bar with bar-backs. My `03 has barely enough slack in the cables and hoses to reach with just the bar. I have to fuel from the right side because the brake line on the right side pushes the handle bars left when it's on the center stand. In order to get that much slack I had to route the cables and hoses outside the headlight brackets.
I don't get caught in the rain, I ride in it on purpose.
Re: Wunderlich Comfort Touring bars or Barbacks?
I ordered the Wunderlich Comfort Bars today. The folks at Wunderlich said that the install takes about 2.5 hrs. and that re-routing of cables AND tank removal is necessary. I hope they come with good instructions.

The trickiest part is re-routing the lines for heated grips. I advise being careful and going slow. I got in a hurry and tore the wires off of one grip. Luckily, I was able to re-attach them OK.PUP wrote:I ordered the Wunderlich Comfort Bars today. harveyrawn,
Thanks for the heads up? Any other issues with install?? Are all cables, etc. really long enough?
How do you like them?

They are long enough, just barely, on the Roadster. I don't think so on the Rockster. I hear tell that the GS sets are longer if that becomes a necessity. I haven't heard of anyone installing these bars on the R1200R, so don't know about that one.

Re: Wunderlich Comfort Touring bars or Barbacks?
The tank comes off to route the wires for the grips. The headlight comes off to route the cables outside of that bracket, after which they are just long enough. If you haven't already, it's a good time to snip the forward wire ties and maybe replace some loosely.PUP wrote:harveyrawn,

I like the bar. You can position it up or down for a custom feel. Your wrists are in a more natural position. Your upper body is a bit more vertical. You have better steering leverage and it feels lighter.

TicTac or anyone,
I have the Verholen barbacks on my r1150r, but it isn't quite enough.
With that said, did you use both the barbacks AND the wellness bar WITHOUTchanging out the stock cables, hoses, etc.????
Sorry. Maybe I'm dense, but I didn't see a definitive answer.
Thanks

Take a look at the Wunderlich bars on their website. They are wider and deeper, but one of the key changes from the stock bar is the angle of the grips. That's what made the difference for me. You get more turn in, which for me made the numbness go away. There always is the possiblity that any bar / seat / footpeg combination may not suit an individual. I'm on my second seat, I have three windshields, and the Wunderlich is my third bar set. I wish BMW had installed this bar on the bike to begin with, but the stock bar was probably a decent compromise for them. You're right, there is no definitive answer. We are cursed with spending all of our disposable income tinkering with our bikes.

My bar backs are the cheapest ones you can find on the market but I don't know the the name of the manufacturer.
They are 1.5 inches UP and 1.5 inches BACK. The rerouting took some time but it worked fine for me.
My bike is 2002 and the break lines are not braided. I just got 2004 bike with braided lines and I am planning to transfer all the toys form 2002 to 2004 bike.
I think that http://www.eurotechmotorsports.com/ sells front break line 2 inches longer than OEM lines for about 50 bucks.
I will take some pic during the surgery and if anybody interested, please let me know.
P.S. If my 2004 bike will need new break line in the front, then I will get new bar backs like the ones on my F650CS called "VARIO BAR RAISER"
It will give me more play to adjust the bars to my riding position.
Good Luck.

Re: Wunderlich Comfort Touring bars or Barbacks?
My Wonderlich Comfort Bars, ( and lift hanlde) are scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Before I mount em, I'd love to see some pix of a R1150R with the Comfort bars on it. Front side rear... I don't want my bike to look like it has ape hangers on it!
i am really curious as to what they look like? If the look fits the bike.
The pic on their website isn't that great.

Re: Wunderlich Comfort Touring bars or Barbacks?
I would send you the pic of the Wunderlich bar on my 2002 but I already started removing all the toys from 2002 and transferring them to my 2004.
I remember moving the bar to the right side first in order to free the left handle and then completely removing the bar.
Also the headlight assembly needs to come off in order to reroute the cables and break line.
I was able to disconnect the wires for the heated grips without taking the gas tank off but to put them back, the gas tank has to come off.
With NON-ABS bike it was easy, since I could bleed the breaks any time, but with ABS I need to be careful.
All that effort will pay off in the long run. It will make you riding position very close the LT ride.
Good Luck.

Re: Wunderlich Comfort Touring bars or Barbacks?
Thanks.
Are the instructions that come with the bar good? I am pretty good with a wrench , and really need the bar change. Don't want the bike to look ugly or misfit.
That is why I was looking for pix.
I did install the OEM low seat yeasterday in place of the Corbin and I like it lots better and my reach improved, now flat footed with a little flex in the knee..
The bars were delivered a few minutes a go, but, I may try some riser/pullbackes before doing the bars...
