How do you lock a helmet on the R12R?
Hi all,
Has enyone found a passenger grab rail OR decent looking bungee type attachments for use in cable locking a helmet to a bike that does not have the rear rack? Something that can be used when the system cases are on or off the bike. Aerostitch has a couple of items but the hole or opening is not large enough for the end of my cable lock. The double looped straps around a frame section is a possibility but by far not my first choice. My other bikes have grab rails.
Thanks

Packsafe makes a helmet bag called the LidSafe. I have one and it works great ! I loop it through the frame tubes to secure the helmet when I dont have the side cases on, or they are full.

The smallest chain from Kriptonite is just long enough to go trough the helmet chin
then locked to the sub frame.
Helmets just stay that way stable on the butt seat area.
Its very fast to attach after a few times.
In order to free space in my luggage's I used to lock my helmet that way with my Suzuki GSX1100G and successfully tested the same trick on my R1200R

I installed a Helmet Guardian behind the license plate:
http://www.cyclegadgets.com/products/pr ... m=GUARDIAN
It clears the bags just fine, looks relatively unobtrusive, and provides two locks ... useful when riding 2-up.
As a side note, I have the key for the bike, the helmet lock and the disk lock all on the same ring. To avoid scratching up the bike's steering head plate, I put some clear vinyl tubing over the disk and helmet lock keys.
Good roads,

I set my helmet on the mirror, place my armor jacket on the seat/tank, and run a Kryptonite cable thru the jacket & helmet as well as the top of the forks and the rear framework near the passenger footpegs. Boots and armor pants go in the topbox. I suppose 'they' could steal my face shield off the Shoei or go thru the jacket pockets and take my garage remote.

Well, sometimes we have to be creative. I checked several vendors and could not find anything that had an opening large enough to take the 0.5" end of my cable lock. Aerostitch had two items but not with an opening large enough for the cable lock. So I fabricated my own.
Started with a u-bolt and flanged hex nuts. I machined down the flats of the nuts so it would not look quite so home-made. After professional powdercoating textured black the result is below.

Installed on the bike

The result turned out fine. Fine for locking a helmet to the bike or bungeeing a light load. Useable with or without the side cases on. With the lock nuts and backing plate on the inside it is suprisingly sturdy and apperance is understated and not objectionable.
Enjoy the day!

I have a Givi topcase maxia 52 liters and a Schuberth C3 which is a surprisingly small helmet...for its price (I know its a bad joke)
Well for now I have plenty of space for all kind of other things if I store my C3, my pair of gloves and my silk bataclava in my Givi Maxia...

I simply use a padlock with a long shank. The lock has 4 or 5 increments. Simply put the lock through the D rings on helmet, place it near the frame tube on the non muffler side near the passenger peg, attach the lock and click it together until the lock is snug against the frame although not quite touching. Then let the helmet rest over the passenger peg. I even wrapped the lock shank in electrical tape to avoid scratches. The whole thing costs like $5. It even works with the bags on.
I finally got got an RT!
