Luggage Lubrication

Have any of you had to lubricate the latching mechanisms of their BMW luggage? I have been camping in allot of rain as of late and this last campout this weekend I notice my latching (locking the opening and closeting locks with the big black tab) is not as slick and smooth as when new. Also my hinges are getting a little squeaky. Could anyone perhaps recommend a lubricant or warn against one that would cause dammage?

Actually, mine have loosened up a little with age ... and that's after about a year and a half of commuter riding, day-or-shine, with the bike parked outside for the first year of its life.

I'd go for something that's sold specifically for lubricating locks. In any event, whatever it is, I'd go for one that leaves a dry film rather than an oil coating, so as to not bind up dust & dirt.

Try a bit of graphite. You can buy it in a squeeze tube and squirt it in the hinges.
