Yet another windscreen story!

After lurking here for the last few months, both before and after the purchase of a new R12R, I decided to finally add my $.02. I bought the BMW touring screen with the bike and within the first 100 miles, removed it. Horrible! Wind noise and turbulence gave me vertigo! So, after alot more reading and waffling I bought a 18"Cee Baily used from a member here (Thanks Nick!). So, for 5'10" me, this shield is a real improvement. Keeps me warmer on these cold North Idaho morning rides. Not perfect, but a whole lot better than the BMW shield. (they oughta be ashamed!)

I'm just starting on my windshield collection. My used R1200R came with the touring screen and the wind noise inside the modular helmet takes some of the fun out of riding. The mailman might be bringing me a used Parabellum today.

I've owned a couple of Harley FLH series bikes with big fork mounted windshields and a Valkyrie too. I know that kind of screen would satisfy me from the standpoint of wind protection and quietness (not perfect, though) but I haven't seen any vendor who has them for BMW bikes, only V-twin cruisers. A quick detach LARGE windshield would be nice.

The CalSci is fairly large - and I've seen some universal bar mount monsters that would probably fit on the R.. but - they have a downside or two. Worst downside to me is the sail effect. I love how the R12R is uneffected by wind gusts. That does change with a big shield, especially when it's attached to the bars.

I don't mind wind if it's not pushing me off the bike (the BMW sport shield) or isn't turbulent (the BMW touring shield)..

Thanks for the tip on the CalSci. The mailman did bring the used Parabellum yesterday. Certainly not as big as a Harley windshield but maybe it will work. I don't know because I don't have a seat until the UPS guy comes on Wednesday.
