suggestions please

Post by Rambling Rose »

I am in the works of buying a new bike. Going between the R1200R and the new F650 twin. I am now riding the 650 single. Both models will be the lowered versons with the lowered seat.
This is my list of farkles so far. Any suggestions on other brands or anything else I might "need".
1. Ztech windshield
2. bar risers/set back brand? 1" up and 1"back needed
will I need longer cables?
3. engine guards bmw or other brand?
4. Throttle lock Throttlemiester but will it work with hand guards? seems the miester doesn't work with bmw hand guards but another brand will for the 650
Anything else I might need right off the start?
Thanks in advance

There are MANY other options for the R1200R. To even suggest one we'd need to know your height and inseam (to judge where your head will end up on the bike vs the shield.) Also - can we assume you're getting the low version of the seat?
2. bar risers/set back brand? 1" up and 1"back needed

As with the shields - a bit of searching here will turn up posts on exactly this topic.
3. engine guards bmw or other brand?
Ditto- there are quite a few good threads on this.
4. Throttle lock Throttlemiester but will it work with hand guards? seems the miester doesn't work with bmw hand guards but another brand will for the 650
Sounding like a broken record - but there are writeups here on installing the GS handguards on the R1200R with a Throttlemiester. It can, and has been done.
Anything else I might need right off the start?
Thanks in advance

Really need to know the use you're going to put the bike to... holligan riding? Touring? - changes what we might suggest as worth getting right off the start.

I think most all of us would suggest getting ABS on the bike, and a number of us wish we had gotten the TPM system and traction control system.

Thank. My riding is 99% slab. Will be 99.9% with the 1200. If I take the bike out for a day trip it will be 150+ miles but often go much longer up to 400+ in a day. Some freeway to get to the good roads. Cruise 70+
Yes ABS will be on the bike.
Usually take gear for camping along.
Insem is SHORT. I have the lower CB on my single.
