Charging System Capacity

Post by nrfichth »

I have a 2004 Rockster and I am curious about the charging system. Is it strong enough to handle a Zumo GPS and Gerbing's heated clothes (heated gloves, pants, and jacket)?

I did purchase a Centech fuse block to keeps things clean, but I am hesitant to get the heated clothes until I figure out if the bike can't handle it. Plus, it would be very costly to buy all of it to find out that I can't use it.

Thanks,
Nate

The charging system can put out 700 watts -- way more than the accessories you're planning. Have fun, ride safe.

Figure you have the 700 watt alternator and can draw 50 amps max. The system operates somewhere in the range of 350 watts or 25 amps (including ABS and Heated Hand Grips). Now you can calculate what is left for accessories.

Nate-

As mentioned above, you've got plenty of Watts at your disposal. We might give up some weight and power to the sportsbike crowd, but we've got the strongest charging circuits in the business.

Plug in the heated gear, crank up the GPS/satellite radio, and add a few lights:
