Hi Folks,
I have been lurking for a while,so thought it about time I pony up a few bucks and become a member.It looks like a great web site.
I can not find a dealer with an in stock r12 that has the asc,which I want. So I wil soon be ordering one from one of the Denver area dealers, hopefully in the biarritz blue color.
My question centers around the ordering process. Will I have as much bargaining leverage by ordering,how long a wait, etc., etc. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

When I bought mine 2 months ago the dealer said there were 99 2008 R12R bikes in inventory around the country. I would try and find one of those with the ASC that you want and then grind 'em on the price. Deals can be had!

You should still be able to get at least $1000 off MSRP, most likely more. Sales are down so even if you order one I'm sure the dealer will accommodate you. The dealer probably has one in the pipeline so you can just modify the options if the bike is in pre-production. The wait is going to be at least two months depending on when they will be making the blue bikes.

Save the money for the ASC and get some other farkles.. Like a decent seat for example. I have one of the release day bikes from 2007 and it was not available at the time. No big deal as you really do not need it if you can ride properly. I tend to think of that as fixing a problem that does not exist for me at least. ABS is worth every penny to the exclusion of all other options if you want to save money.

I'll have to disagree. If ASC had been available when I bought my bike, it would have been on it. I've had too many friends go down 'cause of a slippery spot of pavement. What ABS does for braking, ASC does for bad traction conditions.

Keep on the dealer and make it a requirement - they'll get the message.

Yep, I'm with deilenberger. Today in the rain, I started to get a slow speed rear end slide on some slippery crap on the road. ASC cut engine power quicker than me coming off the throttle and may well have saved me dropping the bike. Spend your hard-earned on the safety electronics while you can. Farkles you can get any time.

What would happen with ASC if you accidentally lifted the front wheel off the ground. Would the front wheel going slower than the rear cause the ASC to kick in. Accelerating hard in second gear usually causes the front wheel to come up, or at least gets light some where around 6K RPM. I assume (yes I know about assume), that it works by matching the speed of the front wheel against the rear wheel and cutting the power by retarding the spark if there is a mismatch. I never read anything about it so I'm most likely wrong.

It is just additional programming - and I have no idea why it can't be added, but apparently the dealer computer has no option of doing that. You do have to have ABS in order to have ASC (but bet everyone who wants ASC also has ABS, so non-issue..)

AFAIK - you can't do a wheelie with ASC on. So.. you would have a momentary off-power if the wheel started to come up.

That's another downside to ASC. If you could turn it and the ABS on and off.

Mark - Don't worry it doesn't go away. I'm 65 and even though I know I shouldn't, it still feels good to lift a wheel every now and then.

You can get the front wheel off the ground with ASC, but you need to be aggressive about it, and it's a short-lived affair as the engine sputters and brings you back to earth. It doesn't sound particularly cool either!

On the R12R, ASC (not ABS) is deactivated with the flick of a switch, so you can have the best of both worlds.

That's why the On/Off switch would be a good idea. That and the fun of digging small trenches in gravel roads.
