Whats' up with all the for-sale R12R's?
In poking around the For-Sale forum - I count 5(!) R1200R's for sale.
What's up with that? Is the economy that bad? (I can think of lots of other things I'd sell before the R12R..)

I've noticed the same thing, and there have been a few on ADVrider that weren't on here. This time last year we had a very small group of riders that seemed to be dedicated to the bike, now this??? Who knows, but I have to say I agree, there would be a ton of other stuff that went out the door before the R

Salesperson at the dealer checked the computer and said there were 99 new 2008 R1200Rs in the country in the warehouses, look for the promotion to be extended or even expanded maybe people are buying new thus creating a glut on the used market.

Yeah, it is that bad and getting worse. Unemployment is up and gaining steam; the fraudulent real estate market bubble has popped, taking with it easy access to disposable income as well as financial sector stability; and now, due to declining consumer confidence, most manufacturing and retail sectors, not to mention the petroleum futures market, are getting whacked. For most of us, a motorcycle is a nice-to-have toy. So in hard times, maybe some (soon to be many?) folks will find that it makes more sense to get by with only the necessities.deilenberger wrote:In poking around the For-Sale forum - I count 5(!) Bottom line, if you are in the market and have the cash, buying used never looked better. Just a guess, but it will probably look better still in 2009.

The roadsters aren't selling. The best kept secret in the BMW line may be in danger of being cancelled, or so my salesman at a dealership friend tells me. I guess they should stop keeping it a secret!
I also think Roadsters are more of a novelty bike, compared to baggers, dual sports etc. Not to say they cannot be adapted to bags, taller windshields etc and make a ripping fun touring bike as proven on this forum, but when the economic pressure is on, novelties are some of the first things people give up.

When you say roadster are we referring to the R12R?
To the OP,
My dealer claims that the R12R is one of the best selling bikes BMW has in their line up. As far as 12's go, the R12R is one of the cheaper 12's they have to offer. Since it might be one of their higher selling models, it only makes sense that their might be more of them on the used market.

Gotta add,I had my 07 for sale on the forum. My reason was, taking advantage of a good deal at my local dealer on a 09,no interest on the 07 and with the way the economy is now, I'm just keeping it. it's paid for and brings lots of smiles and weird grins from me, my wife tells me.

R1200R + debt (maybe) vs. food/shelter/clothing, "it's the economy $&@?!:". I feel blessed that the banker is not my partner.

my local dealer said they have a $5k discount right now on K1200GT/S/R bikes due to the new K1300 range that is imminent. If you're about to buy a K1200, push hard on the price

Re: Whats' up with all the for-sale R12R's?
$3500.00 cash back from BMW plus a bit better than another $1000 off from dealer... And I'm getting a pretty good trade in on the R.
Re: Whats' up with all the for-sale R12R's?
The dealer I go to in orange county hasn't had any available for some time.
I finally got got an RT!
