My new bike

Post by nixdsg »

Hey all, I recently, this spring, bought a new R1200R. I've always loked the R's and finally bout one. Black one with the low seat, perfect for me! I'm very happy with the way it handles, the power, and (mostly) how smooth it is, heated grips are great. I've only made a couple long trips, 600+ mile round trips. I've added the Ztech windshield, bar risers, and a cramp buster. For the most part all good investments. the Ztech gives me more noise and tubulance that I'd like (even tried the tall version with no improvement) but It's better the not having one.

Gripes:
key antena, when is that going to fail??
can't see out mirrors between 60 and 80 (ok at 90).
cracks in headlight lense, what's up with that!!!?
fuel gage stopping working 50 miles after first service

Would I buy one again?? Probably. Maybe a RT next time as the wind shield would be adjustable. For now I'm targeting bags, top case, speed miser (sp?), maybe a Zumo.

Mebbe never. Mine never did - had it replaced under the service campaign at about 16,000 miles..

Look for my posting on adjusting rocker-arm endplay. Mine are great now.. buzz free.

Dunno, some people experience that. What'cha using to clean the bugs off it? Stuff with ammonia will attack some plastics.
fuel gage stopping working 50 miles after first service
And the dealer is fixing it when?

For cleaning the headlight I used normal car wash soap or the head light cleaner at the gas station. If the fluid at the gas staion is the problem then shame on BMW, any designer can see that coming even w/o a DFMEA! What are the chances the dealer will replace it w/o charge??

I read the valve adjustment thread, it's in the plans this winter.

For the gas gage, well they are almost two hours away and after completing the front brake line update and not bleeding it properly they are VERY low on my list. Crappy dealers.

Still love the bike, just needs a little fixing and some additional toys!

Nic, My gas gauge took a dump also, and I have read of others going south on the net. My dealer replaced mine under warranty. As far as the antenna ring that should be replaced via a service bulletin. I feel your pain with the long distance dealer relationship. I bought mine 3 hours away from home, good thing is there is now one an hour from home, makes life a litte easier. Enjoy

I bought the Moto-Tech 513-062M. Cost $56 delivered, very easy to install, fit and finish were perfect. Exatly what I needed!
