Here in Atlanta we have gone from panic mode to desperation mode. Tanks are drying up. No gas anywhere! The supply tankers aren't coming fast enough. I have a dry tank on my truck, and about a gallon in the F650. I can get to work for about two days on that gallon. After that I will be calling in or riding the bicycle!
My wife's car has about 60 more miles before empty and she's considering spending the night at work this week until more gas arrives to the stations around here.
We went through that in Nashville about a week ago. It's not back to normal, but the situation has improved. Most stations have gas now, but only regular. The stations near my house were out of gas for close to two weeks. I was in San Francisco part of that time and I assumed it would be straightened out by the time I returned. No such luck. Whenever a station got a supply of gas people would line up for blocks until it was gone. It's crazy.
I'm glad I filled up my cage tonight. My wife was out running errands and noticed a station near her only had regular. If our stations dry up, then I can always carpool or ride the bus to work, but I don't see it happening in the Washington DC area. Too many politicians around here wouldn't stand for it.

Houston; we still have a problem. Although lines at the pumps are no longer a problem, like others have mentioned, getting anything other than regular unleaded is still difficult.
I traveled some this past week and noticed that along the major interstates and highways, the supply of gasoline seemed to be meeting the demand. But when I retreated to back roads, I began to see stations without any gasoline at all. So Phil - have you tried to find gas along a major interstate yet? You may have better luck.
And I agree, it's not funny. I think hurricane Ike did more damage than people realize. Not only is gasoline in short supply, but while grocery shopping tonight, I still saw a lot of empty shelves in the largest grocery store in my suburb. And of course, it was always something on my list that was missing from the shelves.
Sunday night my 17 year old step-son was over at some friends' house and they left to bring him home at 11:30. On the way he spotted a QT with gas and phoned us. It was near midnight before we got to the station but at least we got the car and truck filled. Yesterday I was busy siphoning gas from the truck to the little bike, which will take me twice as far on a gallon.
Today I have to burn an inordinately large share of that gas riding to get two FD pivot pins and deliver them to Gainesville, for Rob to complete my FD bearing job out at his house. It cost $40 to have that bearing pulled off the crown gear hub! I can't imagine doing that job by the side of the road as claimed in ADV Rider.
I've been reading about the great gas hunt in the southeast. It sounds like a pain.
What I'm reading says the gas is on its way to you...but will be scarce for another week or so. I bet you've been hearing that already... so it's no comfort I'm sure.
Here, gas price is falling, rather dramatically.
$3.32 per gallon today ...it was $3.70 when Ike hit
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...
Have not observed any shortages here in Arkansas (some say I don't get out much). Prices ranging widely between $3.39 and $3.89, with most in the middle for regular. Prices have been dropping quickly last few days.

No shortages in the Tampa Bay area, prices are stuck around $3.60/gal.
Reporter on CNN yesterday said gas wasn't plentiful an hour outside of Atlanta, but maybe she couldn't get there to check!
I Hope they get the situation fixed soon -- at least before I head up to Blue Ridge in mid-October!
I just drove from NC to Tampa via I 75. Stopped numerous times, not wanting to let the tank get below half full. Each time there were some stations that were out, but was able to find one with gas.
With this economic downturn going on, oil is now below $90 a barrel. We have had gas this week here in Atl. but my Shell station on the way to work still only has Diesel. Most other stations have all grades now with minimal lines at the pumps. I guess the pipeline is back on track for us. I just don't understand why the price is still hovering around $3.89 to $3.99 for Regular with that oil price getting lower and lower.
I just did a trip, NYC to Albany. Never saw any gas pumps that didn't have all three grades available. (I paid $4.23.9/gallon for high test in the heart -- well, Tenth Avenue -- of Manhattan.)
