Today's episode: The Big 12

My favorite conference for football. Texas, Oklahoma and those other schools (schedule fillers). Hard hitting, great games to watch. Lots of different styles of play. Upsets, regularly. Born from the Big 8 and the SouthWest Conference in 1995. The SWC used to be the foundation of the Cotton Bowl. A (formerly) GREAT post season event. Pick any year in this decade/century/millenium and a Big 12 team was contending for the National Championship right through the season.

This year, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech are all contenders.

(And they even have a farm division up north for smaller schools that need a big conference tie-in: Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and Colorado)

I think that should say Iowa STATE. Ok ok ok, I would wager that both Iowa and Iowa State don't need to be mentioned in any thread regarding the BCS. They suck.

Today's Episode: PAC10

USC hopes to avoid any let downs. Oregon hopes to field a team. Cal hopes to play every game this season. If it weren't for TV tie-ins and sponsorship, how many of these teams would ever see a bowl game? That's about all I have for the west coast league.

USC wins the PAC 10 easy. The important game that they have in terms of the BCS, is vs. Ohio State on Sept. 13. The winner of that game should have a real boost in the standings.

The question is that does the winner of the USC vs. OSU game move to #1 in the polls?

Rebuilding? What the hell are you talking about? League wise, the SEC is the strongest league and has been for some time. I don't see that changing.

I think Georgia has the talent. However they play a tough schedule. They have two opponents in the top 10 and will most likely face a third top 10 opponent in the SEC Championship should they make it. USC and Ohio State; one opponent in the top 10 and these girl schools don't play a conference championship game. Bunch of pussies.

The question is that does the winner of the USC vs. OSU game move to #1 in the polls?

You can't be serious. I guess I should expect a comment like that from someone who doesn't change their fuel filter. I'm not a fan of pre-season polls. Actually, I wish there were no polls until mid to late October. By that time you have a good idea who's for real. But, polls being how they are, I don't think the winner of that beauty contest should jump an undefeated Georgia (assuming that's the case). If Georgia has a flaw it will show up because they play a tough schedule.

As I see it Ohio State should never jump over and SEC team to the number 1 position. They've been decisively whipped by two SEC teams (both with SEC losses) in the National Championship Game the last two years. I don't know why anyone would rate them in the top 5 with their recent history of being overrated.

It's going to be fun. I'm looking forward to a great football season!

Georgia better win the first couple of games decisively, or they will get jumped. I do agree with you on the polls coming out in October. Are you hoping the Vols beat Georgia and go to #1?

I would not want to be #1, since that team usually loses in the Champ game(OSU, OSU, USC, Miami, etc). OSU believed their own press clippings against Florida, and LSU was a better team.

I think Georgia's biggest problem is Mark Richt. I've seen him make some real stupid moves during a game. The Florida game is not until November. If Georgia is undefeated at that point, they should certainly be number 1. And, if they loose to Florida, well that's a loss and maybe they should drop in the polls. But maybe not. Lets assume OSU defeats SC. Lets also assume Georgia and Florida are undefeated when they meet. So the top three are UGA, OSU, and UF. Lets say Georgia looses to Florida in a well played, close game. Obviously both UGA and UF are better teams than OSU so the next weeks poll should be UF, GA, UT, LSU, Auburn, then maybe OSU.

Of course I hope the Vols beat Georgia and everyone else. Tennessee has talent as usual. They tend to underachieve on a pretty consistent basis though. With a new OC, I'm not sure what to expect from the Vols.

The Boilers are in transition. Their head coach is retiring, and the new guy is starting to take over. Curtis Painter will be one of the top quarterbacks in the country. But the Boilers could have 2 starting NFL quarterbacks if Kyle Orton can take over the Bears. We will see what they do to Central Michigan, after the Chippewas play Georgia.

I figured that Fulmer would be gone after the last couple of years. It is a Lloyd Carr type situation.

I think the Fulmer situation is different than the Lloyd Carr situation; we never lost to Appalachian State! Fulmer has been head coach for 16 years and a part of the program, off and on, for 40 years. In this day of musical coaches I would rather keep someone like him around. I don't care for the current fad of 'buying' coaches. It's no Joe Paterno situation, and won't be unless Fulmer lives to 150. I could change my mind if we're raked 5th and loose to a FCS school.
