$850 for a 12,000 mile service? are you kidding?

Post by redline999 »

I'm paying it, but I guess I need to start doing my own maintenance...Does anyone know the best maintenance manual for the 2005 Rock?

And where to buy it?

thanks H

I had a nail in the newish rear Pilot, and rear brakes and the service, plus the annual service, but wow! I had the 6000 mile in March, then 12000 now, This bike is costing more in maintenance than in payments and insurance!

There's a godo pdf that you can download which has pretty much everything you need - I don't have the link anymore though. :(

That seems a bit much. When I had mine done, I was expecting it to be around that much, but got the bill and it was around $450

If I'm not mistaken, my 12K service came to around $450 also. And my shop did not resort to baling wire and duct tape.

$430 is the quote I got from Touring Sport BMW here in Greenville, SC.

I will be doing it myself, not because of the cost, but because I CAN.

This is something I've been looking into also... My local dealer is actually shutting down (altho' a new one is opening up slightly further afield) but even before I heard about this I shelled out approx. £330 for a (2nd) annual service + MOT which just seemed criminal to me.

Having spoken to a few guys in the forum and also based on some feedback from the BMW Owners Club (UK) I've found an independent specialist who do all servicing requirements for approximately half the cost. I asked my dealer about my 12k service which will be required next year and I was told it'll be around the £400 mark. The independent fella' is coming in around £185.

Seems a no brainer to me... Altho' servicing myself would be even better but I don't feel too confident doing that myself.

Maybe something to think about; a local specialist. Alot of them are ex-BMW trained mechanics...

The ONLY thing a decent home mechanic can't do on the R1150R is test for failure codes on the Motronic system - everything else is pretty basic stuff tbh. If you don't have ABS then home servicing is the way ahead. :)

Unfortunately, decent, home and mechanic, is an oxymoron as far as I'm concerned ;) Wish I'd paid more attention in design & technology class as school
