Owners manual, how to manual

Post by Gabe »

I own a new (for me) 05 R1150R. It is my first Beemer and after reading the spline clutch problems I hope that in the future I'll not have reason to regret my purchase. I have owned Hondas (4) and Harley (2) in the past with out any major problems. I did not receive an owners guide from the seller when I purchased this bike. Where can I obtain one? Also repair guide? The shaft of the mirror on the left side moves at speeds of over 50 miles. How do I tighten this etc. How does one change the time on the clock? etc.

Gabe,

Clymers and Haynes have repair manuals. I have the Clymer and it seems pretty thorough, but some say the Haynes offering is better. As to the clock, if you look at the back side of the instrument cluster, you should see a projecting black knob. Pressing this in and holding it should run your clock forward fast; when you get close to the right time, let off, press and release it to fine tune the setting.

I bought the Haynes. It seemed simpler. Discount store. with shipping $28.95. On eBay the BMW owners manuals for the R1150R were quoted north of $190. and at this price it is [-X

As for the mirror being loose...there is a hex bolt under the clutch assembly that tightens the mirror.

There is a link on the bmwbmw.org, to download and print a owners manual, it is quiet thick. You can print it all out and take it to staples they will bund it for you. PM me with your email address, I will send you the large file I downloaded.

I can't find the link right now but about three months ago, Cyclerob had a post regarding changes made to the 2005 model that eliminated most (?) of the problems related to the Roadster. Also, within the last week or so was another post (perhaps also by Cyclerob) indicating that only about 40 of 40,000 U.S. Roadsters have had a spline falure.

I agonized about buying my 2005R after I started reading the spline scare stories but now I'm cured. I only have about 7,700 miles on mine at at my present rate of riding it's going to outlast me! I'm 64, retired and have a new puppy so my riding is limited.
