brake discs

Post by danstuart »

brake discs on my ed80 are at 4.25mm, believe the minimum is 4.5 so am looking for replacements, I have tried cast iron discs before on a Triumph and had a hard time with them, okay if you use the bike regular but after a couple of weeks idle in winter time the brakes used to bind on and had to be freed off. Grimeca discs are often on ebay, are they any good?

I'm currently using the Grimecas - but bought them from Motorworks (IIRC). Seem fine so far.

one thing to be aware of though - the pair I bought weren't "handed" they were a pair of identical discs with no direction markings - it was almost as if I got 2 RHS discs - but there was nothing on the discs to suggest which direction it should run. Even the pattern of drain holes wasn't indicative.

thanks for that, have ordered one for the rear along with bmw pads, will replace the front as well once the rear has bedded in. Have had an issue with the rear brake binding, with the pads well worn and the disc undersize, I don't know if that could be afecting it or not, have had the pads off, cleaned and greased pins, etc, worked the pistons, maybe the pads are travelling too far on the caliper.
