Changing Fuel line disconnects

Hi all,

I just received my new Omega disconnects. I was gonna swap them out this weekend. Can I just remove the existing ones and replace with the Omegas - or do I need to replace the fuel lines themselves? I don't want it to be a bigger deal than it needs to...

I have no problems/issues currently with the stock DCs, but I'm replacing my air filter with a K&N and therefor have to remove the tank and therefor need to disconnect the current DCs.... etc...etc...

Am I asking for more problems by replacing the disconnects now since they are fine... or should I do the deed as preventative maintenance?

Uhm, you don't need to remove your tank to change the air filter; just remove the bolt on the right side and prop it up. There's plenty of room to remove the air filter. You also don't need to remove the tank to swap out the QD's.

To answer your question - you "probably" don't need to replace the fuel lines. But ... the ends of the QD's are barbed, and sometimes it's easier if you have some spare fuel line handy, just in case those barbed ends are stubborn and you end up mangling the fuel lines when you pull the barbs out.

Wow - feel a bit foolish now... I read that removal of the tank was necessary to replace the filter on a thread a while back... since I have no maintenance manual I could not verify that...

The maintenance manuals all have you remove the tank, but you can "flat rate" it (do the job in half the time and still charge full price) as described by priaprismic.

My reason for changing the fuel lines had to do with the clamps. And I had the tank off for the fuel filter change anyhow. The swaged clamps have been known to leak, so I used 10 clamps, (including the two on the filter). True enough, you can change just the four on the disconnects, and in fact that's how Beemerboneyard sets up their kit. I think you can get by with only 2 feet of line. I bought 3 feet and have quite a bit left. Remember to buy FI hose, not the cheap low pressure hose. It's about $7 a foot.

I take my tank off for the air filter change. I tried it with the tank on and with no second pair of hands it was a pain. I did leave the tank on for the QD change out. I did one disconnect at a time. One, it makes sure you put them on right and two, apparently the gas wont spill over the place that way. I used a dremel tool to cut the clamps off the old set. The barbs were a royal pain to remove. They will come out though. Also, save the o-rings in your original QD's if they're in good shape. They will fit the Omegas.
