Did anyone notice if we exceed our bandwidth in June?

Post by DSKYZD »

I didn't notice if we did. How great is that? Doug upped the limit (paid more money to hosting service) and we went a month without a major outage in the last few days at the end.

If you didn't notice by making a donation and becoming a member you could win a Yamaha XT225 Dual Sport motorcycle. It's a sticky at the top of all the forums so I'm sure you've seen it.

Just wanted to point this out and remind everyone to donate. My name isn't on the list...yet. I'm in for a lifetime membership and five chances as soon I sort out some funds in the next couple of weeks.

Here's link to the thread on the bike raffle:

No one wants R1150R.net to become one of those sites that nag constantly about donations, memberships, and money-money-money. But it has to mentioned from time to time. The donation of this bike to be used for a raffle where the proceeds go to keep the site up is a unique opportunity that needs to be capitalized upon.

Thank you to all of you who have donated so far, we all benefit from your generosity!

+1 on that!
This site is so helpful. I just did the rear brake pad replacement using DSKYZD's thread on how to change brake pads. (Thanks DSKYZD!) I hit a snag that I would have never figured out on my own. I posted a thread in R1150R ( see need brake pad help) and had answers that same evening on how to help.
This probably would have led to me having to trailer my bike and get it serviced at roughly 80.00/hr. if I didn't have help!

Price for lifer membership...60.00
Help from members on this board...priceless!!

The end-of-month bandwidth exceeded lock-out happens once in a while.

What considerate behaviors can we adopt to minimize the monthly bandwidth tally??
For example, will linking to pictures using "URL" instead of forcing their display by using "IMG" cut down on the bandwidth total?
Maybe an easier question would be "What operations count as bandwidth usage?"

Rob, that is a good question that has been discussed before and is difficult to answer. Only Doug could really tell us if he has access to some good log info or site statistics. Since images are not hosted on this site, I suspect they do not affect bandwidth either linked or embedded. It is a long standing question for sure.

The site hosting the pictures takes the bandwidth hit. Which is why a lot of sites will not allow images from their site to be linked, or why you will sometimes come across a site that allows that but the picture is removed and replaced with an image stating that the bandwidth limit for that image has been exceeded.
