looking for windscreen advice

I just recently purchased a 2005 Rockster, and would like to buy a windscreen to be used for occasional touring trips. Would like to know what others have purchased, and the plus and minus of various windscreens. I am 6'3" in height, 34" inseam. Thanks

My experience on the Roadster, has been that bigger is not always better when it comes to windshields. The ideal situation is to just get something that takes the wind off of your chest.

Just posted about this for another one: I have a Wunderlich Trimm, which as Biff pointed out, is just enough to take the wind off the chest. And deposit it under your chin. I am 6'2" with a 33" chest. I put it on in the winter, and it comes off the first week that morning temps are above 40 F. I do the same thing with GS handguards. My installation and review are somewhere in here, you can search this rockster forum with "trimm" and it should come up. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the input. I think maybe a smaller screen will do the trick. Actually, this is a very nice riding bike, even without a windscreen. It's a quieter ride then my 650GS with a Dakar windshield. But anything over 70 mph and it gets a little tiring tucking into the little calm spot that the screen just above the headlights provides. I am going to look for a screen that goes on and off easy, because 99% of my riding will not require a screen. I just want something for a once a year week long trip on the bike. Thanks again.

I got that sport screen from wunderlich because I live in southern California where the average speed is 80+ if you don't want to be run over. So a windscreen is a must. The sport screen has worked very well and still looks good on the bike.

If you decide that you can live with one full time then a small fly-screen can be easily made up with an old helmet visor attached to the eyebrow or headlamp brackets.

I also have the Wunderlich "trimm" screen and think it's far quieter with both noise and turbulence. Had the BMW touring screen for a while & downsized. much happier now.
With the value of the $$ being so low right now I almost went into shock the last time I looked at the Wunderlich site. Hly crap!

The Trimm comes off very easily. 2 bolts hold it on to brackets that I leave on full time, as they stay out of the way very nicely.

thanks for the photo's of your bike. The screen looks nicer then what I thought it would, having viewed just the pics in the wonderlick catalog. I think that's what I will get for my bike.

I have a Rockster, and it came with the BMW screen on it. Well, actually I made them take it off and put it in a box before I picked it up, so that no one could see me with that monstrosity on the bike.

I ended up putting it back on, just to see what it would be like for longer trips. I am 6'4", and I despise it. It blows the wind directly into the front of my helmet, and is noisy as hell. It also looks like I took it off of a snowmobile.

I prefer none. I have gone many thousand miles on the old girl with nothing in front of me but that little instrument cover.

But to each his own.

I guess I dont have much input, other than the BMW windshield looks gross and works worse.

This works fine for me and easy to remove if not touring. Would not be without one as I get no buffering at all with it.

Tripton, I have not heard of one person yet who has liked the BMW screen for the Rockster, regardless of height. I will be leaving in a couple of weeks for a trip on the Rockster from Michigan over to Virginia where I will pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway trail, and take that down to Tennessee. I think a week of riding will tell me if the windscreen is a necessity or not.
Robok, thanks for the windscreen suggestion, I was not familiar with that motorcycle catalog company. It fits your bike nice. I will certainly give that screen consideration if after my trip I feel I would have been more comfortable having had a screen on. Thanks again.

I just recently purchase a Parabellum (tinted) for my Rockie. Works really well. I didn't want one to high, I didn't want to give her that touring bike look, but rather I wanted her to keep that urban, naked bad girl appeal. This windscreen did the trick. I commute 60 miles every day on her, so I just needed something to keep the wind out of my chest. Coupled with the windsreen, I got a carbon fiber HJC helmet. No more fatigue. That windscreen looks an awful lot like a National Cycle Deflector Screen (http://www.nationalcycle.com/catalogue/ ... reen.shtml) to me. I had one with the quick detachable mounts on a Suzuki. Great screen.
