Carbon Canistor - 3 hose nipples but only 2 tubes

Hi,

just checked that the carbon canistor (located on the right side towards the rear of the bike under the luggage rack) has 3 hose nipples. Two big and one small. The big hose nipples were connected by tubes but there's no hose or tube connected to the small hose nipple in the center. Is this normal?

Another odd issue that I have discovered. How many drain tubes are there on the R1100R altogether? i've looked at the drain hoses near the rear brake master cylinder and discovered 3. 2 of them of almost equal length and they are tucked nicely. Found on odd tube that is smaller diameter than the other 2 but is much longer. I am starting to wonder if this is a loose connection that dropped down from some hose nipple somewhere.

I couldn't find any reference to these hoses in the repair manual or the parts fiche list.

Check the tech section at www.ibmwr.org and I think you'll find a helpful article. It actually deals with removing the carbon trap- but shows the routing.

3 drains down under sounds about right- one for rain, one for fuel vent and one for crankcase vent.

The two similar hoses come from your fuel tank, one is for overflow at the fuel station, and the other
is a breather hose so petrol will flow without suction and creating a vacuum in your tank and if you hear a whoosh
when you lift off the cap this hose is blocked...

the other hose is usually the battery acid overflow before the gel battery, negated fitment now.

Why?

That is, why remove the canister?

Yes, it's ugly, and that may be reason enough. But is there any other benefit?
