R1200R vs R1200GS
I currently own both a GS and an R. The R is the newer bike in the garage. I find the R a lot smoother and more refined than the GS. It is snappier from 1st gear. It seems to have a lot more torque when I change gear. I need to really ease off the clutch and lean forward otherwise I feel like I will do a wheelie each time I change gear. I will keep my R as stock/naked as possible. I took it for a ride at 45F/6C and find it a bit chilly. It will be a great warmer temps bike however. I love this bike. Feedback anyone?

Well - you won't get any arguments here.. IMHO the GS is vastly overrated..

I originally wanted a GS. Tried one at the dealers. Too tall for me. I'm vertically challenged (5'8", 30" inseam) and the GS was too much to handle in parking lots slow speed situations. The R is just right. Nice balance at all speeds and I can move it around easily in parking lots, garage etc.
I don’t have the desire to off-road so all the ground clearance would be lost on me.
The more I ride the R the more I like it.

See Chitown Joe's postings to see you don't need a GS to go off-road.. his R12R has seen more off-road than the vast majority of GS's/GSA's..sandycruz wrote:I don’t have the desire to off-road so all the ground clearance would be lost on me.

Blasphemy!!!!!!!!

I wish more of the GSs farkles fit the R. Those guys have a boat load to choose from. I've had my bike on several fire roads and worse. I'm going for Pirelli Scorpions next time.

I've never gotten the GS fixation. Most people I know who ride them never voluntarily leave the tarmac.
