Removed tank & replaced, now excessive noise from fuel pump

Post by pinecone »

Installed a heated grip kit today so the tank had to be removed. It was pretty empty but before reinstalling, I tipped it to the left to try and get all the gas to that side - thinking less would leak out when the lines were reconnected.

After putting everything back together it started up fine but the fuel pump is now making all kinds of noise. Kind of like when you turn the key and hear it go for a second but now it doesn't stop. Is this because the right side of the tank is empty? I didn't let it run very long - afraid of frying something. Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this and if you all think it will go away after it's filled back up?

The noise will definately go away when you fill up... 8)

One day i tried to see how far i could go on one tank after 250 kms the fuel pump was
screaming at me and although i could have gone further i did not, so i never really found
out how far i could go on one tank as "the guilt factor was too great" by punishing the fuel pump
to almost dry

Thanks for the reply, I feel much better now :D I'll just think of this as another "feature". If the light won't prompt you to fill up, the noise certainly will!

Now, if the 6" of slimy, sloppy, wet stuff we got yesterday will hurry up and MELT, I can get the poor thing on the road...
