"Prior to the race BMW held a press conference stating they hoped to 1) finish and 2) break the top 20. It seemed overly optimistic when two BMWs went down on the opening lap, but they ultimately did much better than that. Richard Cooper and Brian Parriott finished in sixth and seventh aboard their BMW HP2 Sport machines."
6th and 7th has to make BMW pretty happy, since Parriott wrecked on the first lap, and was in/or near last place. There was some problem with getting the race started, and a bunch of folks had cold tires once things got going.

There ain't no education in the second kick of a mule!
That may become 5th and 6th. The first place Honda was disqualified due to an illegal crankshaft. That's the dope this morning.
This is what Richard Cooper had to say after finishing 6th place:
I can’t tell you how surprised, but happy I am over this result. This is my fourth time at Daytona and every time before I’ve had some misfortune or other. On the first lap, I nearly hit Rico, when he was nudged from behind. I managed to brake hard and just missed him, but it was pretty close! After that the race settled down and I had no problems whatsoever. I knew that a top fifteen finish was the goal, but I was thinking more of a top ten result. So to get sixth is amazing and particularly as this place is so special for me. The pit-stops were perfect and the bike was a dream and that’s down to all the hard work the team put in.
They said the BMW engines were stock !!!! That's impressive finishes for an air cooled big twin running with 16,000 RPM 600cc 4 cylinder water cooled SportBikes.
You could hear the difference between the 4 cylinder bikes, the 848cc Ducatis and the quite loud BMW 1200 twins when they went past the smooth panning trackside camera. I did not notice the Buell XB12's music.
Bummer for Duhamel getting Black Flagged AFTER the whole race was almost over at lap 54 for a spare bike replacement rule violation way back at the 1st lap.
Interesting that the 200MPH SuperBikes (the next race) are geared for 220MPH because the rear tire is spinning 20MPH faster at that speed. It's no wonder they (tires) don't last.
Also, Euro, UK, Aussie fans take notice, there were NO F'n spectator AIR HORNS until the race was OVER!!
