Motorcycles in TV Shows
Watching the new Terminator show on FOX. One of the main characters (the GOOD robot) rolled up on an R1150RT wearing full highway-patrol garb, including big mirrored aviators and a white helmet.. I suppose it was a not-so-subtle nod to Terminator 2.
My peeve? The RT sounded just like a 4-cylinder sportbike at idle! Why don't sound designers bother to strive for accuracy? Things like this stick out to a sore thumb. To me. I'm sure most everyone watching this show noticed this glaring error.

Good to know I'm not average!
Watched "The Italian Job" on DVD last night...amazing how a couple of RT-Ps sound like GSXR 1000's! Hmm, how fast would a RT-P be with a Suzook motor?

Re: Motorcycles in TV Shows
It would be faster than an RT with a BMW motor, that's for damn sure.

I always get a laugh out of the fact that they all have like 10 gears... the guy is going a steady speed but the bike keeps reving up and shifting... over and over and over...
Tell you what, BMW must be ponying up some good bucks to have their bikes in moves, cause they are in them a lot; Paycheck, Violet, Resident Evil, and others...

In T2 the kid is riding an XR 4 stroke and it has the sound of a 2.

Guess when I need a hit of real vehicle sounds in a movie I can always watch Bullit! Again!
I get a kick out of movie sound effects with motorcycles in movies when the rider's hand isn't moving, but the motor keeps gettin' revved up. The T2 scenes with the motobike the kid is riding is a perfect example. Zoom zoom

Re: Motorcycles in TV Shows
Or the sound of squealing tires coming from a gravel road?
Re: Motorcycles in TV Shows
In a home theater store last year, I saw a 5 minute clip of (what I assumed was) a B movie titled Ultra-Violet in which the lead (hot girl, vinyl bodysuit, purple hair) rode a silver R1150R straight up the side of a building, then somehow launched it airborne and rode it through a helicopter(?). I don't remember what sort of sounds it made, but there were some pretty fancy looking dials on the cluster that I didn't recognize.
I'm not so sure that BMW is paying for placement, so much as that they're one of the few mainstream manufacturers who build motorcycles which appear, to the layman, to be equipped for space travel.
