Little hassle

Post by lucagoa »

Hi,

I'm now riding the bike for a couple of days and noticed the following:

a) 1st gear. Sometimes it doesn't catch up :-k Need to work the clutch a couple of time to get it in.
b) rearview mirrors. Slight vibes.

Anyone of you noticed the above?
Thanks
Luca

a) Yes, especially sitting at a light. It's normal. If you can, get it in gear before you come to a complete stop - otherwise pull the clutch in, let go and in again and 1st will go right in.
b) Yes, and I have to tell myself that while counterbalanced - it is a twin cylinder engine.

These "little hassles" are BMW "Character" LOL. I always shift to 1st before stopping, so that never bothers. The stock mirrors are a little buzzy, but not so much that I will go out and spend money on replacements. Ride safe. Hank

Luca,

I am guessing this is your very first Beemer, right? You will soon learn the little trick of pushing down on the shifter while easing out the clutch to get the bike in first from neutral when stopped. This characteristic of Beemers has a lot to do with the dry clutch and separate engine and transmission. This new drive train is noticeably smoother and more refined than in any previous BMW model in my experience, but it is not as slick as the average Japanese bike. Mirrors on big twins can generally be expected to have some fuzz in them. In this regard I notice more mirror fuzz at highway speeds on my R1200R than I do on my partner's R1200RT. The motors feel the same and we both think it has something to do with the mirrors themselves and the difference in how they are mounted. These bikes are quite refined and you will probably grow so used to your's that you will not even notice these things very soon. Either that or you will find yourself so irritated that the bike will not be with you for long. I hope the former and wish you great joy of your bike.

Regards,

Bill
