Thoughts after the first 500 miles
The weather is still not cooperating totaly with me...but I've managed to get it a bit closer to the first service. I really have to say I like this bike more every time I ride it and at this point think it is probably the best bike BMW has ever built. Some aspects are not perfect, style (do a retro Daytona Orange R90S) and the seat seems to come up short for the pillion (though my wife seems happy so far) but all in all...a great bike and a big improvement over the previous generation R's from a performance and handling standpoint. Yes, it's just plain fun.

At least it's possible you will ride soon, here in Chicago it's so cold if you spit, it'll freeze before it hits the ground...
Even looking at the extended forecast there's no hope in sight I will be able to ride soon. 35ºF and sunny would be good enough for me, but noooooo.
Glad you're enjoying your new R, it just gets better, especially the engine after 5,000 miles or so.
As for the seat, you did know to budget another $500 or so to get yours reworked right? Unless you and your wife are German and have some special shaped butt, or aren't going to ride long days.
There's plenty of info around here about seats.
Just think, if you just bought a Harley how much $ would you have to spend on chrome before you were considered cool by your buddies........
At least with your new BMW, all you really need is a seat and windshield...
and maybe some hard bags, top box with backrest, tank bag, GPS, XM radio, intercom, throttlemeister, butt pad, hand guards, back massager, automatic kick stand..... oh forget it, just a seat and a windshield will do...
What color anyway? Pics?

It's great from April into November, might even be a few nice days in March. But the middle of February can test one's sanity.
