Gas tank removal
Have any of you fellas taken your gas tank off yet? I need to remove mine to change out the handlebar brake line to a longer one in order to accomodate a set of bar backs. Once I change the line I will need to bleed the brakes at the ABS module. So far I have removed all the tupperware and uncoupled both fuel line connectors, I can't seem to find the electrical disconnect for the fuel pump and it looks like both vent lines on the right side of the tank need to be disconnected at the tank. If anyone has any suggestions / advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Scooter: The site gives instructions for removing the R1150R tank, The R1200R tank is quite a bit different and most of what is shown here doesn't apply.

On the left side of the bike check the top frame rail about 3 centimeters back from the battery. You'll find a black cylindrical device for the fuel pump which is what you want to disconnect according the the maint DVD. It also says to disconnect the line from the holder and cable ties.

This is the maintenance DVD that you get from BMW for a little over $100.00. Sure wish they had a paper manual but at least you can print the sections that you need from the DVD. Here's a link which should have the DVD for the R1200R but your dealer probably has it in stock. If you search the forum, someone else has a Boxer DVD which is much cheaper but I don't know if it's specific to the R1200R.

Re: Gas tank removal
Tag your advice was spot on and extremely helpful. Thanks. The DVD from Marc Parnes shows tank removal etc on an R11200GS. The parts and procedures are totally different from those on the RR. I'm going to bite the bullet & get the RR DVD from BMW
Re: Gas tank removal
I'm glad I could be of help. Here's a word of warning if you're going to get the DVD: It states that you need IE Explorer version 5.5 or higher as your browser and your OS must be Windows 2000 or XP. Another reason why paper is so nice, you don't have to worry about a PC or operating system upgrade breaking your existing software. I thought the DVD would be a pdf and some people at the shop referred to it as a pdf, but it's a program which is designed to run on certain operating systems. I wonder if they have a MAC or Linux version?

You can get the BMW R1200R / R1200S maintenance dvd on ebay for $20. I have one and it works fine...
The legality of it is on the seller, not the buyer....

I don't believe there is a Linux version, and I'm sure there isn't one for the Mac. However, it does run (although slowly) on an iMac G5 with OS X, Virtual PC, and Windows XP.
