Love hotels, these are the places where 70 percents of Japanese women conceived. Why don't they do at home or the back of the Chevy or Ford? Reason: lack of place at home to do the intimate thing (kids running around). This is just for the one that wanted to do the right thing.
The other 30 percents are the teens, students, old farts that want to stay young, housewives want to have fun!!
These hotels are normally located in the wood somewhere, do not want someone to see me coming or going there. Hey. Hotel attendant would not see your face when check-in or check-out.
You get to the hotel and look at the room (display with price, like vending machine). Most of the time, you have to pay in advance. During one of my ride, I had to use this service. I got inside the room and the room locked automatically. Prior to check-out, I place my money inside clear plastic tube (similar to drive thru banking in US) and drop it inside the air duct. Once the other side received my payment; the door open.
How much does it cost to stay at one of this place?
During the day (0900 AM-1000 PM), you would be charged hourly rate. After 1000 PM, you would be charge a room rate until your time to check-out.
During my first visit to Japan, my tour guide told me about these places. They are not the place that you put your family in for a night.
FYI.
Hotel in Japan charge you by number of person that will stay in the room. If you have three persons, it will be three x a person rated (3 x 100 = 300). EXPENSIVE!!!
Here are some pictures.

If you have a chance to visit Japan, it is an experience that you can your friends.
Circle 50 is the maximum speed limit on Japanese Hwy.
